This whole thing was just a thought based on vw guys putting Tuareg and Lamborghini brakes on their jettas and golfs. Seems like its not the best option, but I would like to hear something from someone with some facts, not speculation. |

Of course I don't know what I'm talking about but it sounds funny.
One wants the smallest brakes that will do the job. A Lamborghini weighs how much and goes how fast? A Touareg weighs how much? Have you read the Essex Parts build thread/blog? They are claiming 20 pounds (total both sides) saving with their Sprint system and 8-10 pounds (total) with their Endurance system. Why would you fit something that weighs more? I'm not saying something like that is necessary, it wasn't something I would have done if I had kept my jetta, but like I said before all this was a thought on possibly saving people money on upgrading their frs or brz.

Ok. Serious time. I apologise for the laughing smilies. It was my 1st reaction not knowing anything about vw people putting Lamborghini brakes on their golfs.
I do not know anything about the reality of fitting STI brakes to a BRZ/86 but I think it sounds a lot better than the idea of trying to fit Tundra brakes. |

However, that doesn't change the fact that most here will never *need* bigger brakes and that they *will not* do anything good for you on the street.

The biggest issue with fitting brakes on ANY car willy nilly is the likely chance of upsetting the brake bias. In a car this balanced do you really want to take the risk? If you're going for bling then fine...
If you had asked about piston sizes instead then I know you'd be at least attempting to calculate brake bias. Then possibly fitting any old calipers from some <insert car here> would make sense. |

If you could make them fit, which would take a custom bracket, bigger wheels, and custom rotors, it wouldn't be a performance improvement.
A big front heavy truck like a Tundra is going to have way too much front bias and will lock up the front tires very easily when used on a FT86. The increase in unsprung weight will be substantial and have a noticeable impact on ride, handling, and acceleration. Short version: don't do it. - Andrew |

Aren't the Subaru 4/2pot calipers nearly bolt-up? I don't think they're directional like the Brembos...

FYI - Second Gen Tundra has a PCD of 5x150.

The fronts should bolt up, I don't know about the rears.
