I wonder what sort of weight it adds. Can't be more than 50 lbs?

Plus metal is being removed.

Yeah I would say ~40-50 lbs. However someone might argue the weight is placed higher so it will affect handling due to weight being higher. Not sure about that since weight is minimal.

Good riddance to 40lbs at the top of my car, thats more than my spare tire.

Relatively thin sheet metal would replace the seals, hinges/tracks, motor, insulation, wires, and buttons. Ill take the metal and 40lbs off my weight.

I'm sure the floor mats and trunk mat in your car saturated with dirt add almost 40lbs...

I don't understand the complaint for a single item adding <100 lbs of weight. That's less that having a passenger adds. I'd imagine that having the fan on to circulate air taxes the engine more than the 50 lbs, or having a side window open creates more drag than the sunroof open would.

But I guess each person has their own priorities. To me, 40lbs or so is well worth the convenience and novelty of having a sunroof.

Plus myself weighing 150 lbs, I'd still be "faster" than the average American who weighs somewhere around 190+ lbs. heh...

@chulooz, I agree. If all else is equal I prefer not having a sunroof.

I think it's a great option to add.

I agree it shouldn't be standard though.

You sayin my floor mats are saturated with dirt?

But for real... its just the fact that all of that weight is at the very top of the car (further from the COG) that makes it more detrimental to the dynamics of the drive. Similarly, the heavy bumper beams made to meet safety requirements are also a worth while mods that loose you around 40lbs.

I has a sunroof.

It doesn't make me happy at all. In fact, during the times I'd want to open it, as soon as I do the sunlight comes directly into my eyes lol. And it doesn't belong in a sports car.

The tilt is definitely cool tho. If toyota/scion could design a manual tilt only sunroof(to save weight), I'd totally respect it. But I wouldn't get one.

@chulooz I will def. be getting rid of those asap. BTW, any idea if insurance would ever find out if I got into an accident? haha

They are usually for incidents that are around the 5MPH range... Insurance probably wouldnt have a clue.

Fully agree. Sunroof is pretty much a deal-breaker for me. My main point of hope the FR-S won't bother with a sunroof is how low all the concepts have been. Sunroofs kills headroom, and headroom is at a premium with low sports cars.

Final thought regarding sunroofs: if I wanted to feel the wind in my hair, I'd drive a convertible!

Sunroofs serve no real purpose other than to.. add cost to the car. -_-

Even with that thing open you feel less happening than your side mirrors.

Wait, no sunroof? Then how are our 6'6" members going to fit in the FR-S?

You guys honestly think you could tell a difference in driving because of the weight difference in a sunroof compared to a hard top? No

I would prefer a sunroof myself. Why? Here's the scenario, your girlfriend is feeling kinky and wants to have sex in the middle of a parking lot. Obvious first choice would be the back seat but we all know how useless the rear seats are. So then thiers the front. Driverside ain't happenin with the steering wheel and such. That leaves the passenger side. I'm not gonna try and be on top cause what if I slip and take a shifter to the bum? Not cool. So I will be sitting on the passenger seat all streched out with her on top. But its not fair for me to be all streched out and comfortable while she is all hunchbacked and shit. BINGO! Ill open the sunroof so she can stick her head and upper half out and have a grand old time with her big floppy titties bouncing off the roof. So after roughly 35 to 40 seconds ill be done and we will be on our way with the wind in our hair... atleast that's how it happened in my dream last night...
