Post a sound clip. You might have some different issue.

If you want an easy check - attach a stethoscope to a shiny metal pipe right next to the oil filter. It's a high-pressure fuel line going directly to the HPFP and you'll hear if your sound is coming from there.

This. Don't be deceived by the tensioner wobble. The cricket chirp is definitely from the HPFP.

I took my car into the dealer today for OTHER issues (A/C chirp and rear decklid tapping) only to have it returned to me with the cricket chirp, too (plus the other issues weren't fixed)!

Holy sweet mother of mercy this noise is like a gang of wild monkeys playing xylophones in my ears... while puking!

I have about 940 miles on my car.

I got the chirps at about 900 miles. It's now here to stay. I'm going to wait until they come out with all the TSB's and the mechanics get used to the BRZ before I take it in and have it all worked on at one visit. Hopefully, they'll fix it all well enough and not return it with more problems like some other person said happened when they took their car in.

Here's a link where you can check for TSB. I check it from time to time:

They don't list Scion or Subaru.

Or am I missing something?

For 2013, no TSB so far.
There's a complaint for Subaru BRZ 2013. Funny I think. See below:

Summary:
THIS 2013 SUBARU BRZ WITH THE STANDARD RADIO AND ONLY RADIO OFFERED IS THIS AM/FM/HD/SAT/IPOD/IPHONE/TEXT/CD/NAV TOUCHSCREEN ONLY ACCESS TO CONTROLS RADIO. THIS RADIO IS SLOW TO RESPOND WHEN USING IPOD/IPHONE,SLOW TO RECOGNIZE TOUCH INPUTS, SOMETIMES IGNORES INPUT. BUTTONS ON TOUCHSCREEN TOO SMALL. THIS CAR DESPERATELY NEEDS STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS FOR THIS UNSAFE RADIO! I KNOW THEY WILL BE OFFERING THIS IN THE NEXT MODEL YEAR BUT THAT LEAVES ABOUT 100000 OF THESE UNSAFE BRZS ON THE ROAD WITH DISTRACTED DRIVING ISSUES. I ALREADY HAD TO LOCKUP THE BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME! THIS RADIO CAUSE DRIVER TO LOSE EYE CONTACT WITH THE ROAD FAR TOO LONG FOR COMFORT! I WILL NOT LET MY 18YR OLD DRIVE THIS CAR, ITS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN! I FEEL SUBARU NEEDS A RECALL TO RETROFIT THE STEERING WHEELS CONTROLS OR BAN USA SALES AND FORCE SUBARU TO BUY BACK THESE UNSAFE SOLD BRZ. WHEN YOUR DRIVING THIS CAR YOU GOT THE MANUAL TRANS GOING ON PLUS YOUR AVG COFFEE DRINKER AND ADD IN THIS DEADLY RADIO SETUP AND YOUR JUST ASKING FOR AN ACCIDENT! THIS CAR IS TARGETED AT YOUNG BUYERS WITH THEIR IPODS/IPHONES AND TALKING AND TEXTING AS THEY CRUISE THE STREETS. THIS CAR IS THE ONLY CAR THAT SUBARU SELLS WITHOUT THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS. WHY? PLEASE FORCE SUBARU TO REPLACE THE NO CONTROL STEERING WHEEL FOR ONE WITH CONTROLS. A CONCERNED PARENT. *TR

What an archaic concept. Also, I'm fairly certain there's a disclaimer somewhere in the manuals about "Do not adjust/operate radio/entertainment system while driving."

Oh well, maybe they'll retrofit steering wheel controls on my FRS for free! That'd be sweet.

But in relation to actual thread topic (chirping): I don't have it, after 450 miles, my car just ticks away with its typical DI noises. Its far quieter than the engine of my GTI ever was, which is nice. I suppose now that I've said there's no chirp, I'll start hearing a chirping noise starting tomorrow, but oh well.

If you have a Scion FR-S, be sure to look under Toyota as well. My 2009 Scion tC listed under there.

I don't think I've ever heard a cricket before. I once hooked up with a girl named Cricket and I got some pretty interesting noises out of her.
