Ummmm, What?

HID's use less power than traditional halogen bulbs. That's why they are starting to become the norm, it leaves more overhead to power things like your car's computers. The only time they use more power is during start-up for the ballast.

From popular mechanics:
Quote:
HID bulbs don't use a tungsten filament. Instead, they pass a high-voltage electrical arc through a partially evacuated chamber that's filled with noble gases and mineral salts. A ballast/igniter is necessary to provide the high voltage and high initial current, although once the bulb is started, it uses far less energy and gives off more light than the QI lamp. Plus, the arc projects a crisp beam, with an easy-to-manage pattern.

So, it's pretty much the opposite, your battery will drain less quickly, unless you're sitting there turning your headlights on and off while the car isn't running. But that would just be silly.

Oh, and I the auto dimmers are no biggie to me, I prefer not to have them if it keeps the cost down or saves even an ounce of weight. Heck, I probably wouldn't use them even if the car came with it.

If you leave the lights on, there is an audible alarm that goes off if the car is off and the doors are open. Might make you panic at first but it's just a friendly reminder to turn the lights off.

Sorry to be bringing up an old thread, but I just noticed my BRZ do the same thing in regards to the lights not turning off while in "Auto." What's the purpose of even having it if it doesn't function properly. Back to being "old school" I suppose.

Haha i was like what's happening?!?! Even though I knew the headlights were on.

I guess i'm old school and even my older '91 pickup that I still own never had any luxuries to it.. So i'm used to double checking headlights.
