I worked almost 24 hours in a row the two days ago. Last night I thought I needed 14 hours lol.
Random thought: I can't wait to get my FRS so I can start a journal and show everybody my completely stock new car. |

But still thinking constantly about how to rev a 1NZ/1NR to 9000rpm. I would really appreciate if Toyota brought the 1NR 6sp combo to the US, nevermind the 1.33 displacement. |

Just remembered my buddy said Blitz makes (made?) an SC kit for his Yaris. So MR-S + Yaris motor + Prius cams (+ 6m from Celica/Matrix/Corolla XRS?) + SC kit = not too expensive path to your goal?

I'm interested in the 1NR because that transmission supposedly has some weight reduction done to it. The reason for dropping down in displacement is to decrease weight (a supercharger or electric motor can be mounted more flexibly). Problem is Toyota sucks and won't make a 6 speed for us. The 1NZ is 65lbs lighter than the 2ZZ. I imagine a supercharger setup would add back at least half of that, but at least I can tuck the supercharger near the bottom of the chassis. Supercharger > variable lift. My concern with Prius cams is that while they bleed off intake air just fine below 4000rpm, at 8000rpm things are pretty different. The first step would probably be to bolt in a 1NZ with built bottom end and milled heads, fitting with the Prius cams, and then dyno it to see how it behaves at high rpm. It would also give a small clue about how well the head is flowing. I don't think the bore is that big of an issue, because the 1NZ has a relatively small stroke and big bore for its displacement. I am also wondering if it would be a good idea to attempt to dry sump it since it's getting custom chassis mounts. Speculating about how you're going to blow tons of money and time is so fun! |

Funny thing is even if the NZ is dirt cheap, everything for it will be big one-off custom dollars because of zero support. A 2ZZ/6m would probably be much, much cheaper. What about 2ZZ (easy, but boring) then adding a mild hybrid (motor in the frunk area, powering the front wheels?) with ultra caps (hard, but interesting)? Plus sorting the swap relatively easily/quickly can be good for building confidence for the later stuff.

2ZZ swaps are quite cheap, but like I said they aren't nerdgasm inducing. The 2ZZ is such a beautiful motor from the factory, if I put one in it'll feel like there's nothing left to do. I insist on decreasing the displacement, because I think the displacement is too high for the MR2. Still trying to decide what "Miller cycle ratio" (physical expansion ratio/true compression ratio) to use, the higher it is the higher the static compression should go to maximize the efficiency and power, but as you know high compression interferes with in cylinder flow. The biggest piece of the puzzle is still obtaining the unicorn Eaton TVS supercharger...may have to just settle for a centri |
