The internet tends to bring out the worst in people.
Not all salespeople are out to gut you - some will be reasonable, but "reasonable" should always be a two-way street.
They have mortgages too, right?

Got mine for $500 over invoice and I also will be applying a coupon from the website for $300 off the negotiated price when I go in tomorrow. Also have a $500 coupon for your next subaru purchase from a friend of mine that I'm going to try to use.

Cost and invoice are the exact same thing. Been selling cars for three years

The problem I have with this statement is, from a financial standpoint, I saved about $10,00 buying an affordable rear-wheel drive sports car.
Horrible statement (I'm guessing he was trying to say $10,000). It's similar to when you hear a girl say. "I could have got the purse that was $1,000 but got the $500 one instead so I saved money." No you actually still spent $500.

From a financial standpoint buying a "New" vehicle is ill-advised. Because financial planners will take into account depreciation cost-of-ownership and calculate the best financial car buying decision.

This is only from a "financial standpoint." I understand the argument of wanting something new and that you know it's not abused by the previous owner. From every new car, especially Audi, I have too many friends with A4's that have spent a lot of time in the shop.

But my new car is so SHINY!
I paid MSRP and would do so again.

Yea, I did mean $10,000.
This was a "new car" example, meaning I decided to buy a new car with a 34K budget, to which I was considering the 370Z. I instead found one that handles even better and is more fun to drive based on what others have said.

As for your example with the purse, If this girl had a $1000 saved to buy a particlular purse, then found another purse with the same style, quality, good warranty for $500 cheaper, then, yea, I say she did save money, as did the rest of us who purchased this car instead of 40k and up gas guzzler.
