Not here in CA. You pay sales tax on the purchase price. So, it'd be 25k * tax rate.

Just run a Craigslist ad and put in Best Offer. See what kind of response you get.

Hard to explain.... I can afford the thing. It isn't a money issue. I am just no happier driving the FRS than I am driving my old pickup truck. And it doesn't have anything to do with it being an FRS. It could be a WRX or a Ferrari for that matter.... I guess to me a car is a car, no matter how amazing it may be. Just found out the hard way I suppose.

If it doesn't bring me any additional happiness, I figure I should just sell it and avoid the headache that comes with it all. Still not decided however...

If you were selling one in Aus, you could probably make a nice profit over it. (18 month wait for the car now)

If you want to 18k right now, I'll cut you a cashier's check asap and hand it to you.

But to your OP, I think you can get close to what you paid for since the supply is low and because you're in the Bay Area I'm sure you can find a buyer.

Correct, but let's be realistic here, I don't know anyone that has claimed even close to full purchase price on the tax forms for the DMV. It's more along the lines of "yep, I bought this $42k BMW for $5,700." While that may be illegal, California is absurd when it comes to taxes.

Yes...you are correct. I realize everyone does this as well. I'd still rather pay the tax difference and have a brand new, undriven FR-S. 25k for a used FR-S is just absurd.
