I believe it was car and driver that found lighter and wider 18's added more grip and cornering speed but ran slower lap times due to it changing the overall gearing because of the larger radius of the tires and wheels. Also unless you plan on doing a big brake kit, 18's dwarf the stock rotors making the package as a whole look off.

On thing to consider, at least today, is top notch performance tires are cheaper in 17" sizes. Regular summer tires and most all seasons are fairly close in the widths most 86ers would use though. I do agree 18" wheel fit the curves of the car well but I'll like use 17s so I can share tires between the BRZ and the WRX.

The GTS version in Oz has larger brake discs (I've ordered the GTS). With 215 tyres on 18x8 wheels the gearing should stay just about the same see link, http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...&Submit=Submit
r17 tyres are cheaper but that is why you keep your OEM 17 wheels if you going to track or burn though your rubber quick .

225/45-17 is my favorite set up! I ran this on my '98 240SX. This along with a front STB and an almost 2 inch drop, allowed me to drift only when intended...highly predictable! If you're not really planning to drift your FRS/BRZ, yet want a car capable of doing so, (as I do) this may work well for you. Also bear in mind a 50 series tire will give you a smoother ride than 45's that you may appreciate if you're a little older (also like me). Good luck!

17x8 w/ 235/40-17s is what I'd go with. 18s = waste of money, and lookswise the brakes already look lost in 17s, would look even scrawnier inside 18s.

Agreed. 17x8 rpf01's with 235 40 17 tires is my choice for this car. Can't go wrong with that tire wheel combo.
