I think it's because sports cars just aren't as cool as the used to be. Back in the day chicks drove n/a eclipses etc. because sporty cars were fashionable, now they want Hybrids. Present female company excluded.

Hmm am I the only one that wants the 2GR-FE V6 from the (my) Camry / Lotus Evora in this car?
I love this engine and I've always wanted it in a smaller sportier car, but... The Camry body in SE V6 form was the best available and it still manages 5.7 seconds in a near full sized sedan with everyday tires and regular fuel. It also returns mileage equivalent to the Civic SI, very impressive considering this V6 produces 270 hp and 250 torque. Anyways I'm hoping for a V6 model in the lineup but chances are this car will stay a 4 banger. My opinion... let Scion and Subaru keep the subie 4 banger, make a Toyota version the Supra equivalent with a near 300hp 2GR-FE naturally aspirated V6 or 300-400ish turbocharged. Hell they have plenty of body styles to choose from (MK1 FTW). At least Toyota will have a true sports car/super car in the lineup again and something in between the entry sports Scion FR-S and the astronomical Lexus LF-A. |

I would damn near sell my soul for this car to have the 2gr v6...or a new engine with the same power output.

I personally don't like buying a Toyota with the heart of a Subaru. The 2GR-FE is an amazing engine and is to me the most underrated mainstream engine built today. Its good enough for a similar sports car the Lotus Evora, and now Toyota has the perfect platform to take advantage of this engine themselves... Sure probably not going to happen, but hey your not going to stop me from hoping... I honestly think this would be a very good idea for Toyota. |

FYI fellas, sometimes to achieve greater economy would increase performance. For the boxer engine, better thermal effiency of the intake charge warrants better economy and power (not just talking about intake). A 40k volt rating of distributerless independent coilpacks warrent better economy and power.
Subaru also tends to rich up their factory ECU maps for the sake of increasing the longevity of the engine. This kills power to a certain degree, but for most owners its a worthy trade off. Since this is a toyota project, the basic blueprint of the boxer engine is shared, but at the heart, this is not a subaru engine.

I never said boxers were efficient thermally...Boxer engines intake charge suffers from heat soak. So for example, a phonemic spacer disconnecting the intake manifold from the block would help with with thermal efficiency, thus improving intake temps, improving economy, improving performance.
