BRZ/FR-S/GT86 Air Filter equivalents

The BRZ comes with the Toyota 17801-22020 filter from Denso.

Equivalents:
K&N: 33-2252
Purolator: A25463
Purolator PureONE: PA25463
Fram: CA9482

The cabin air filter does not have a part# on it. If anyone at Subaru or Toyota have the part#, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Btw, easiest cabin filter to change ever!

I always just get large furnace filters and cut them to size, they work just as well in my experience and you get 2-4 or more sometimes for nine bucks.

K&N: 33-2252 is also for 1st gen scion tC. Well, that means afe wet type 30-10094 and dry type 31-10094 will fit.

That's odd. I list a K&N 33-2300 for the 05 tC. But I also list the same Purolator as above (A25463). Strange.

The only different is height. 33-2300 is 27mm, while 33-2252 is 25mm. 05-06 tC uses 33-2300, and 07-10 uses 33-2252. The one from TRD and aFe has 25mm height, which is for 05-10 tC. Some said TRD USA uses afe as their oem, but I am not sure.

I pulled the cabin air filter from one of the cars and it wasn't the same as any other Toyota models. Maybe it's the same as a Subaru? FR-S part numbers don't really cross over well to other Toyota models, but the Toyota part number for the cabin filter is SU003-02112.

For the engine air filter:

Toyota: 17801-22020, 17801-0D020 or SU003-00319
TRD USA: PTR43-00085

Fits 03-08 Corolla/Matrix, 05-10 Scion tC, and 13+ Scion FR-S.

I was about to pick up the K&N but since the MAF is so close to the element, I decided against it. I might pick up a dry nano filter.

Just got off the phone with Purolator again. That number doesn't cross. Which is possible as I don't think they make some Subaru filters. The home HVAC filter idea above is something a lot of Subaru owners do.

Ideally if you wanted to cross reference it, what you need is the Subaru part number, IMO. The part number I gave you probably won't cross to anything yet. It's like how the Toyota part number for the oil filter is SU003-00311, while it's actually a Subaru 15208-AA130 oil filter in the box, which is more easily cross-referenced.

Cross referencing Toyota 86/FR-S parts is complicated/hard because the car has unique part numbers that don't match up with other Subaru or Toyota part numbers. They are just FR-S part numbers, and that's it.

So my suggestion is to get the BRZ part number for the cabin filter and try to cross reference that instead.

Jeff

AFe dry air filer is good. No oil, no mess. Only $30 when I bought it. I used that on my tC for 5 years without problem. I got >120k miles on my tC before someone rear ended and total it.

So if I wanted to purchase a cabin filter replacement (when necessary) what aftermarket brand/model numbers would fit? lets say from auto zone or advance auto ?

thanks!

I'll try to remember to cross this when I get in to work tomorrow. But I'm not sure there's a cross just yet. You shouldn't need to replace it for a while. But if you really want to, one of the things a lot of Subaru owners do is get a home HVAC filter and cut it to fit.
