Oh my bad, thought this area of the forums was to show and discuss Parts and development...Wouldn't have said that in the classified section of the forums, as that would have been bad form for polluting someones sale thread.

@SRT,
What is your opinion of pleated paper air filters? I am in the habit of replacing my (stock) air filter every 10,000 kilometers. I appreciate everything's a compromise but I would prefer cleaner air vs better flow filtering. Do you think a pleated paper filter would flow sufficiently well given the same dimensions as the filter pictured?

Also curious.

I don't even know what spatial reasoning is.

I see a straight shot into the TB with a nicely radiused entry. The fact that is boxed can take advantage of resonance effects. And that it is shorter than stock means that the resonance effect should be higher in the rev range than stock, which is also where gains from higher flow should show up.

Looks good.

Can't wait for dyno results and the finished heat shielding.

You haven't discussed anything yet... so far all you've said is "spatial reasoning"

Try making educated responses instead of cocky one liners and then people will be willing to work with you.

this forum welcomes intelligent debate however there was neither intelligence nor debate in what you said. you retty much shot down the design while giving no reason or cause as to why.

I can't seem to find your post about how you would improve the design. Could you point me to it?

Of couse a couple of the guys at the shop decided to put an LED light inside the box, I bitched a little, but I must say it did look pretty cool, perhaps for cars in car shows
Question...is it required to get the ECU thing with the intake or can I buy an ECUTek tune from Visconti? Could I have him make a map for me that would do the same without a second ECU? Or would the ECU with the intake conflict with an ECUTek tune?

I'm really digging this design and I'm looking forward to results! I'd really like it if I can keep all (or at least most) of my mods with one company/vendor. I ordered your exhaust and I would like to get your intake and headers as long as the results are in-line with the competition.

Thanks for the hard work and thinking outside the box!

BTW, when I first read LED's I though eewwww, but I have to admit, it looks pretty damn good!

Thanks!

This is a very interesting idea, even if I am not completely sure what a resonance chamber is supposed to do, exactly.

I am definitely not an expert in fluid dynamics, though.

I do see one major flaw with this system though, and thats the fact that the design of their box will limit the effectiveness of the velocity stack. In order for that design to work properly the entire air box will have to remain at the same pressure(or vac to be more accurate), but having the filter on one side right next to the stack basically assures that that wont happen. At some point in the rev range the suction created by the motor will cause the filter to become a choke point, and when that happens the box wont be at a constant pressure and airflow will prioritize itself, which means that instead of drawing an equal amount of air around the entire stack it will be getting more from the side with the filter on it. An easy solution could be to add two smaller filter on eash side instead of a large one on one side, or using an elbow off of the bottom of the box for the filter if theres room.

Im not saying that it wont work or make power, just that it doesnt seem to be optimized for the entire rev range. I cant wait to see what it can do though.
This is from a thread on another car forum (non-twins). Seems to make sense and i'm wondering what your thoughts on this are.

Depends on the filter you choose and what it is rated to flow. The filter we are using is the same filter element we use in our turbo 2JZ and K20 motors that have pushed upwards of 800+whp without and issues.

You should be able to order it without the piggyback ECU if you would like to do that, however, you must realize that it will not work properly if you do not have some sort of tuning with this intake.

Thanks for your support. Results will not disappoint.

You mentioned plans to utilize the factory air snorkel with those most recent pics (which are sexy as hell by the way) but I remember in AIRAID's thread reading that the opening at the end of that snorkel housed inside the bumper is significantly smaller than the opening into the bumper itself. They stated that removing the snorkel resulted in 20% better flow.

Here's the quote. What are your thoughts on this?

To get the most airflow I recommend removing the factory inlet to let the box breathe from the space behind the bumper. It is possible to unbolt the top edge of the bumper and sneak the inlet out very carefully. We designed in a nice smooth velocity stack where it mates to the inlet which netted a couple more hp. By adding the velocity stack and removing the factory inlet, the CFM increased by 20% on the flowbench. I also stuck my hand in through the opening where the airbox breathes from and it is noticably cooler inside the bumper, so we know it is a great source for fresh, cool air.

If you leave the inlet in, this is what the cross section looks like. Not bad, but it could be better.

In general Im really curious to see how much hp a non-ECU-needing intake makes once you have a tune on it.

X intake w/o tune = 4hp.

Y intake which needs a tune = 8hp.

Would X intake make 8hp with a tune anyways, and if so in the end will you just be better off buying the non-ECU-needing intake so you can get gains without having to spend an extra $500-1000? Time will tell on this, but the hp/$ factor for in intake that also needs a piggyback ECU to be installed seems like it would be really, really low...

...unless it makes a shit ton of power. I'm really looking forward to the dyno results on this intake.
