Can anyone who's into this kind of thing help me understand what the advantages might be going with one supplier versus another (octane per region/updates/warranty differences, etc.). Visconti seems to be have done the most tuning on these cars so far...

BTW, this is somewhat eye opening for us auto owners (not just a tune):

wow, i watched that without sound. the tacho went up quick!

When it comes to tuning for me, warranty will probably place higher than extra power. and im not sure about this, but i doubt a US tune will be as effective as an AU tune for us. doesnt US have a lower octane fuel than we do?

Visconti talks about 91/93 tunes (which would be AKI units, I assume, equaling aussie 95/98 RON), so I don't think so. But I'm no expert, so that's why I'm asking.

Yeh, that's mine. I haven't got around to posting info yet. I have a dyno sheet with AFR.

You're assumption is correct US 91 = AU 95 and US 93 = AU 98. Slight differences, but not much.

Yeh, I think 15hp isn't bad for just a tune. Can't wait to get air filter and exhaust to see if I can hit the magic 200rwhp.

They've got a BRZ. Looked over it whilst I was in there. Already had Tein coilovers and a bunch of Whiteline gear.

This is going to sound strange, but I had them put it back to stock.
Reason being is that I'm developing parts for the car that I need to know will work with the factory tuning. When their cables arrive I can flash it on and off as many times as I like. Hopefully I'll be able to give a "seat of the pants" and track test reviews soon.

Yes. I have a feeling they'll notice my other mods before this one ;-)

Interesting. Judging by that dyno sheet you need about 11rwkw to hit the 200rwhp. One would think that with a good intake, headers and exhaust that 11kw should be close to achievable at least.
I am looking forward to some drive tests comparing stock v tune before doing more mods, and obviously every step of the way. My medium term plans include headers, intake, rest of exhaust and tune as well.

My thoughts on the ecutek, that it is not up to scratch

It does not matter how good or bad a flash/ standalone system is...

It all comes down to the tuner for your aftermarket flash. It is like cooking. If you give the same ingredients to two people, let's call one of them Jamie Oliver for arguments aAndre other a contestant to a cooking show, and to add more spice to this argument we will give our Jamie Oliver lesser quality ingredients and the show contestant the best the deli can offer.

The final result is going to be our Jamie Oliver who produce the result. The cooking contestant WILL make an excellent dish, but it will fall short of our Jamie Oliver.

What I am trying to say aftermarkets are only good as the tuner that installs them, it does matter how good the system even a inferior system will net better results if the other system is not installed properly.

I think I need to take a break from these damn cooking shows

I don't quite understand you reasoning. EcuTek is just like other ECUs and lets you control fuel, ignition and cam timing. As far as I'm concerned they all do the same job. I totally agree it's the tuner that makes the difference. My tuner offers a Lifetime Warranty. The other thing to note is to make sure whatever ECU tuning solution you use has good knock detection and response. EcuTek keeps the factory programming for knock and from all reports it's very good.

Just commenting on about the few comments that said that ECUtek was not good.

Condensed version of too late night rant was the system is only as good as the tuner that set it up.

this pretty much summarises the problems with the internet...
•one person posts something somewhere regarding a topic that may or may not be based on reality
•this is then repeated and passed off as personal experience by someone who wants to sound like they know what they are talking about.
•and suddenly every thread on the 'net' about a particular topic contains mis-information.
•it is kind like playing Chinese Whispers but everyone believes the person next to them started the game and that their second hand information is completely infallible...

Ah, sorry, I thought you were saying that EcuTek was no good. But that didn't match the rest of your post. Always easy to misinterpret things you read.

I think people need to be very careful who they select to tune their car. I am very picky as to who I let touch my car. But for the people I trust I give them enough space to work their magic.
