Well I was thinking more of a flat ducting that directed air from the scoop to a particular area. Two or three could be made and you would purchase and install the one that works best for our application. The photo you provided looks like a complete hood liner that you would then trim to direct the air where you want it. Correct? That would work but would be heavier than smaller, more specialized, panels.

I have been assured that it should be at least a tiny bit lighter than stock. And there's always the CF option they're talking about projected for after SEMA...

This what I somehow pictured, however it interferes with the car's flowing lines and thereby gives it a dated appearence. On the other hand, such a scoop is a Subaru marker. I'll hold out for a twin gill vent design.

The hood is sitting in my garage, currently. Funds are extremely tight right now and I can't afford to have the pearlescent paint blended. The paint job will cost around 600-700, plus the Optiguard and clear bra afterwards.
When I finally get it done, I'll post pics. The hood design came out great, though.

I wonder what the Tunnel specs went down to? .33 I would guess looks like the old FC Rotary hoods.

The stock hood is aluminum, its not like you really need to save much weight there. You'll get better results elsewhere.

If it's made of fiberglass I think this hood might be heavier than stock. The stock hood is aluminum and already lighter than Subaru's usual aluminum hoods. As it is, wet carbon hoods for the WRX/STI are only a couple pounds lighter than stock. Considering how lighter the BRZ/FR-S hood is, I think wet carbon might be needed to match the stock weight, and dry carbon needed to see any real weight reduction.
I'd want to see some real weights before ordering a replacement hood. |
