Paid $800 over invoice, after taxes, title, doc fees, accessories (wheel locks and homelink mirror) it came to around $30.2k which was paid in cash.

Daayyym.... Delaware taxes are insanely low. So jelly the difference could have paid for an exhaust.

+ Title Fee: $25.00
+ Doc Fee: $399.81

Financed $20,429.01 over 60 months @ 3.99% => $376.14 / mo

My insurance is about 65/mo (28 yo reasonably clean driving record, my own policy with my wife and some discounts)

I don't really understand you're insurance ...$400 per month?! You need to find a new insurance company.

Yeah technically we don't have a tax ...Instead it's a "Document Fee" equal to 3.75% the net cost. Which is also great because if the car is 30k, and your trade is 10k you only pay 3.75% on 20k since technically you've already paid your fee on your trade (10k).

On the flip side, before we moved here, we lived in NJ and my wife had just bought a car in 2010 ...we wound up paying the 7% NJ sales tax in 2010 and then when we moved to DE we got banged another 3.75% since it was over a year since we bought it. That sucked.

Actually that's not correct. You have to be Military, work for a company approved (defense contractors, etc), member of various organizations, Federal Gov employee, relative or housemate of someone who qualifies, live or work in a "eligible location", or join NMFA for $20 or Voices for $15.

So, assuming you have absolutely nothing to do with the government, you can still join, it'll just cost you $15 or $20 depending whether you like Voices for American Troops or National Military Family Association more.

Their new 1.49 rate is really really good!

I placed an order Premium with Manual yesterday agreeing $28K OTD. (yes. including tax and every fees.)
told dealer that if i don't see $28K number at the bottom of paper, i will walk out.
I stopped by few other dealers but they don't go lower than MSRP since this thing is new to market. i made few $$$$ lower than MSRP so i guess i got a good deal.
I have to see how it goes until i sign a paper which it will be next 2 months.

It was easier for me because the dealer is close to my house, and they are using a bank thats even closer. When dealing with a website I dont feel like i have someone to talk to if I have an issue. Plus I didn't know how much exactly i was going to put down and how much I needed as a loan because it was difficult to get a final price(tax included) till I was sitting down with the car in front of me.
Also I was not in the military so I've never used penfed before this. I just donated the 15 dollars for them to let me join.

if dealer match that to Penfed, i will do the samething because need to find out total $$ as you said then request that $$ to Penfed. it will take 2-3 days and you cannot bring your car unitl you or dealer receive remaining balanced check $$.

If your DTI is great and credit score is high Subaru finance can beat PenFed, they did for me anyways (DTI is low single digits and credit score is above 800), but that was when PenFed was 1.99%.
