So I can see the same happening with your 86-piston badges. Jackasses who try to initiate street races aren't the brightest eggs in a six-pack, so it doesn't take much to confuse them. And yeah, I can see them hesitating to try and pick a race with something they don't recognize. |

This car was so hyped up that it's to be expected, the street tuner scene is incredibly campy and the 86 is a new thug that's entered the turf war. With all of the rave reviews it's gotten, a lot of people must feel like they have something to prove.
Car enthusiasts from other camps don't buy into the whole "sports car" image toyobaru was trying to go for and see the 86 as a Ricer car. Tbh they wouldn't be wrong, I don't drive this car like it's a Ferrari or try to pretend it's anywhere near that level. At best I'd say this on the prestige level of a S2K or 350/370Z which are both Ricer cars. Yet when the car is debadged/rebadged or you're just speaking with a person who is uneducated with cars; this car can LOOK like a Ferrari or Maserati before realizing it's something else. Badging messes with how you may perceive a car. I remember when I first saw the Hyundai Genesis Coupe with those alternate badges they offer (The winged bronze ones) that replace the Hyundai badges, I was stumped on what they car was. At first I thought it was a Corvette, then I thought maybe it was some new sports or even super car I've never seen or heard of before. I literally spent half an hour looking at the damned thing trying to figure out it was. This was when that car FIRST came out, probably where the FR-S is now. Now I see the same car and feel silly over being so smitten by it. Give it a bit and everyone will start looking at you in the same light as a Genesis owner and the challenges will stop. xD |

Never had anyone try to race me yet. Although in my Civic Si everyone tried to race me, and I just got good at ignoring those people...maybe I just don't notice them.
Anyone who thinks their FR-S isn't a Scion is lying to themselves...but hey, whatever helps you sleep at night. |

but once i changed the emblem to the 86, 95% of the those guys don't know what kind of car it is until the they see the toyota badge in the front, even then they'll think it's a new supra or something.... but from the back/side and on the highway, it's hard to tell what kind of car we're diving so they don't wanna race the maserati or ferrari looking car and get wrecked.... that's just my theory. either way....

Yesterday a guy driving a mint Ferrari 348 TS said "nice car" to me during rush hour. I almost felt bad because I wasn't sure if he knew that it wasn't an exotic or something. I guess it shouldn't matter. I was staring at his car just as much as he was staring at mine! lol
Anyway, back on topic, some asshat in a Mustang GT tried to get me to race him yesterday on a 45MPH road. I completely ignored him, he raced himself, and it felt great.

After I left the GYM, some random car matched my speed next to me wanting to race.
I'm like... okay Put my three fingers up (thumbs and pinky down) to count 321. Pulled down my ring finger a second later, then the pointy finger the next second and left with him with the middle finger.

In the case of the twins, Subaru entirely engineered it except for the key fob, the direct injection, and the sheet metal you look at when one drives by. Everything else is Subaru developed, Subaru designed, and Subaru assembled. That makes the car Subaru from start to finish. Someone tried to correct that comment a while back by saying Toyota was there throughout the entire development cycle...which in my eyes means nothing more than them shaking or nodding their head from each attempt Subaru made with the part in question. Come on Hawaiian, even you know the examples you provided aren't comparable to what we are sematicizing about. |
