ever since my old GTR i have loved the gun metallic grey / tornado grey. owned an aristo and 944 turbo in black and were a nightmare to keep as daily driven cars. Tornado Grey FTW.

I've always thought stealthing out your lights was illegal.

Yes, you are right, but I am not going to paint the lense but the chrome insides. i think it has been done already and it looks awesome. I have done quite a few of them in the past and still do (my IS200). it involves putting them in the oven, etc. but man they look mean at the end. I am acutally thinking of a custom paint of them but I have to get the car first.

I drive a black s15. When you have a black car you either get real good and keen at cleaning and maintaining, or you learn to not give a crap. If you go black be prepared for this because keeping it clean and schmick is a pain.

Question is are you prepared to care for a black car? As mentioned above, it is a true pain in the ass. I ditched all of my black cars purely because I did not have time to apply a glaze every 2 weeks, decontaminate every month and machine polish every six months. Being a detailer this says alot.

I reckon the black is hands down the best colour of the 86 range, but its going to be a love-hate affair.

Ive detailed over 2000 cars in my life and I can easily tell you only get black if your prepared to wash the car weekly with the proper process. Even then, given the soft Subaru paint you will eventually end up with swirls that will drive you nuts.

It will reduce the chance and build up on swirling but it wont stop it. Nothing will.

I love black cars. Only problem for me would be the heat. Have you ever got inside a black car when its hot outside? lol. Its not cool. Especially in WA. So I ordered a white one.

Of course is not cool...regardless of the colour mate! JOkes aside, Mythbusters confirmed that a black car heats up quicker and the temperature difference is is about 10 F cooler in the white car. So I guess you are right. I have a silver car now, and man that heats up big time. Also one important thing is the interior of the car. If it's black it will be even hotter, if it's light colour then you're cool.
Funny thing is that in Dubai but more in Quatar and Kuwait (where the temperature reaches 40 during the winter - and high humidity. I tell you..it is hot), you have quite a few black cars...I've asked a taxi driver how come you have black cars in one of the hottest place? Guess what? His answer was that it's a status symbol. If you have a white car, then you're practical, thus poor ('Poor' meaning that you only have ONE million in the bank). If you have a black car, then you have a cool garage, a servant to polish it and to cool it off before you get in.
I guess I will be the darn servant this time around because I dont have the million dollars in my bank yet! Time to get someone to do it for me! High heels, volouptos figure and blond hair servants will do.

Bro let me share a story with you. sorry for going off topic. I was deployed to Egypt for a while and I was living in a tent city in the middle of the desert. Man it was so hot that it wasnt funny. i had a day off and went into Cairo and its burning up outside. A local asked me if I wanted a cup of coffee!!!! I think I passed out after he asked me that.

I want to go for the stealth look: black headlights, black taillights too (only the casing on both)

What you guys think? I am well aware of the dificulties to maintain a black car, although I've never owned one.
Check out the 360 degree view of the tornado grey on the Toyota NZ 86 Facebook site here. Looks beautiful.

Saw the Tornado grey in the day light as well...I must say that it look amazing too. I like the black one too though. They both look good. Furthermore, the swirls are visible on any car. I passed an Audi A3 or something in red, and the swirls were very visible in the sun. I think the only colour that will mask the swirls slightly more is light silver. I have a Silver Lexus and I can's see any swirls or anything, although at a very careful look, there are some.
In terms of the colour and the temperature of the car...well they're both dark colours and I really doubt there will be any noticeable difference between the black and tornado grey in terms of the temperature inside. I guess though, that the swirls will be noticeable on the grey colour but not as much.
