Highly unusual very rare Lotus 7 inspired Donkervoort. They are built in the Netherlands and this one is a S8AT from 1991. Dario was driving by (on his way to dinner with his wife) one Monday night and happened to catch a glimpse of Purple Rain (our Caterham 7) at the local Cruise Night. He turned around and came back to see if it was what he thought it was. He told me had this car and showed up a couple of weeks later with it. Unfortunately we’d driven the wife’s 1981 Spitfire that night.
This evening we final both showed up with our cars and were able to do a visual comparison. Two completely different cars but both generate huge smiles for their owners and passengers.

Looking good.. nice seeing "Lotus" 7's outside of the UK. Interesting to see what looks like a UK license plate on the Donkervoort...

Thanks, and yes it is nice to see two or more at the same time. There seems to be an upsurge in 7’s for sale right now. This is strange because in general the market value is low on cars like these right now.
There is a 1970 S3 in original, one family owned condition on BaT right now.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-lotus-seven-3/

Also, I lucked into a barn find that is need of restoration. A fellow Caterham 7 owner, (1987 BDR) is looking into the purchase of this car once we can identify what it actually was/is.

As for the Donkenvoort, I believe it is the original Dutch plate as it was imported from the Netherlands to Canada a decade or more ago.

Just checked the Donkervoort's license plate on our Gov MOT site, its a UK plate for sure. As for your barn find, I wouldn't get too hung up on what it was/is, i would go more on condition as you can make it what you want...

I should have done that instead of just assuming as I was told it came straight from the Netherlands.

Well that's the point. Someone at some point in its distant past did just that. It does not have a factory number plate just a hand stamped piece of metal with a fictitious LSB #. Plus, the chassis number from the builder, (either Universal Radiator or Arch Motors) is missing/removed.
Makes one think at best it is a bitsa or at worse was stolen long ago. The present owner has never licensed it for the street only used it for track days. Hasn't been driven in 8-10 years as it needed a clutch.

The Donkervert had circa 16k Kilometres when it was last tested in the UK. A bit strange to recorded Kilometres instead of miles..

As for "bitsa", best left alone... keep on blatting..

The speedometer reads in kp/h so one would assume the odometer does too.

That's my feeling as well but the interested party is thinking of building it as a vintage racer. I can only advise.
