I'm guessing that yes, we don't all need cables individually, but we all will need licenses and flashes (I bet none of visconti's test subjects own a cable) despite visconti stepping around our direct question earlier, but, if he or ecutek wil sell it that way remains a mystery.
Now that I've had some sleep maybe I can explain this a little better

This is EcuTek's ProECU Kit.

Comes with Box, DesKey Security Dongle, EcuTek Cable and EcuTek software.

This package can easily comparable to other things.

Example-

Tactrix Cable $200
Cable Case $20
EcuEdit Standard/Pro datalogging & graphing software $120/150

$340/370 !

None of my test candidates have a cable simply because I'm out of stock and won't have anymore until next week.

If you don't want to buy the ProECU kit when you get a tune that's fine.

Shipping should be about $20-25 bucks round trip with insurance.

You'll need to provide me a refundable deposit for the cable.

I can't stress enough that everyone should really own their own cable - with out the cable you have no control. You cant flash the ecu, and you cant datalog. Can't flash back to stock for dealer service. Plus if the car doesn't 'feel' right you'll have to wait 2-4 days for a cable to arrive.

There is no edit version right now - Later down the road as the software improves there might be a end-user edit version available.

Bitch to them about the edit version - not me. sales@ecutek.com

Ok John, for the sake of my sanity and perhaps my insanity later down the road, if i were to buy this kit and tune for my NA car right now, but decide to go FI later on, what if anything would i have to pay for other than a tune? I'm not 100% sure I understand how this works, and as you said earlier EcuTek is working on additional features such as throttle blipping, map switching, etc. Will those features be able to be added to this kit, or would i be looking at another purchase?

I'm only curious because i really am in love with your results so far with just tuning, but my plans for this car wont keep her NA for too long, and most upgrades i am buying right now will be compatible with FI endeavors.

Hey John,

I'm sorry if I came off a little snarky last night. Let that be a lesson to people, don't post drunk (no, I wasn't driving).

So, if a few of us pooled together and bought a community cable, after paying you for your tune, and ecutek for each license, we could keep the cable and have one owner be the holder of the cable. If anyone wanted to reflash, they would have to go to him, and they would lose out on day to day data logging unless they borrowed the cable for a little while.

I'm not trying to be cheap, I just think it's a way to get more people who are on the fence price wise a "discount". A few users will want that extra functionality, or the ability to self tune, and will want to pay more for it.

Wouldn't it benefit you though if you could get 7 guys in an area their NA tunes at once, rather than one or 2, because lets face it, many of us own this car because it's a reasonably priced sports car, and we are frugal.

All my tunes get Free Updates.

The only exception that comes to mind would be maybe a Full SD Tune - then there might be a charge for that.

But for the most part, AutoBlip, Launch Control, Map switch will all be part of the free updates. As time goes on I'll be pushing updates to everyone.

I'm still sorting out the pricing, but more than likely the FI Tune will be more money than a NA Tune.

If you already purchased a NA Tune then go FI I would offer you a discount on the FI Tune.

I dont care if the cable is shared between a group of owners.

Still doesn't change the fact that everyone SHOULD have their own cable.

Personally after driving one of these cars for a few days in a row - I love it

However I think it's overpriced.

If it came with a turbo or maybe 250WHP out of the box then it would be well worth the money

Awesome that's what I was wondering about!

As for being overpriced? I guess it could be...I bought it knowing that i would not have it stock for long and at this point in time for a new car, there really isnt anything remotely interesting besides the FR-S/BRZ not to mention how fast the aftermarket has ramped up for this car. I am worried about it becoming the Civic of this generation though, time will tell, I think the price may help keep the car from becoming so common you get sick of seeing them, and the power being lower stock than say a Genesis 2.0 might also deter flooding the markets. This car has the potential to be the equivalent of the MR2 in the 90's, something different and absolutely a blast to drive but still in a niche of its own.

Am I the only one who noticed the gear indicator light? Is that something that you can turn on in the manual cars? Or was this an auto? I could swear it was a manual haha.

You have to turn it on yourself...mine didnt come on from the factory. you have to turn the car off, press the odo button until u see something that says G-off then when your there u hold the button down and it will say g-on(which means gear indicator on)

It also has an option in the menu that allows you to set an audible beep at whatever rpm you want

Well since in still have primes frs I've been doing more mpg testing.

So my test with my v2 st1 flash got me about 30mpg all highway babying the car with the a/c on

50 miles on my v2 stg1 flash and 100 miles on my v3 stg1 flash.
Mix of highway and us-1 with stop lights .. Aggressive driving - 26.5mpg.

Still room for improvement but I'm liking where this is going

I average 33-34 mpg using cruise on the hwy with the A/C on.... stock everything and 6MT.... Perhaps my car is abnormal?

Also, any word if it's detectable by the dealer? I'd be all over this if it doesn't have to void my warranty....

Are you going by the dash or are you using math to calculate your mpg

Both, I read the dash and calculate it manually each fill up. It's usually within .5.
