Toyota EV announcement

Looks like Toyota is finally jumping in with both feet, making a huge investment in Georgetown, KY to build a yet to be announced 3 row SUV EV.

24M Claims The 1000 Mile Battery Is Nearly Here

https://cleantechnica.com/2024/02/14...s-nearly-here/

Graphs show the comparison of this battery to lithium-iron-phosphate and to typical lithium-nickle-cobalt-aluminum and lithium-nickle-manganese-cobalt batteries.

I don't think this is a new development, but they have been allocating more funds to EV development after the CEO Switcheroo.

I don't expect to see much in the way of EV's until they get their next gen EV platform up and running. Seems to me they are abandoning and salvaging whatever is left of TNGA-e right now. I think the next BEV Lexus model is to be the first one on this new platform.

Just because it's not reported doesn't mean it isn't on fire... don't forget Canada had some pretty bad ones in years past, the 2016 Fort McMurray one was one of the worst.

And don't forget the fires in eastern BC in 2017(which were heavily reported). I flew out to Seattle that summer and the smell was close to unbearable. Fortunately, when I drove up to Vancouver,it wasn't nearly as bad,but you could still smell it,or was it just stuck in my nose in Seattle and wouldn't go away.

There were BC fires in 2018 that were actually worse! My friend that lived in Portland at the time said that the smell was pretty bad all the way down there too.

I'm no expert but I agree with the article where it says that by mid next year the slump will level out and growth in the market will continue. GM is selling a lot of the lower end (Equinox, etc) and the new Bolt next year will likely sell well if it is under $30K.

The OEMs need to figure out how to price the cars on par with ICE vehicles of the same size. Not sure how they'll do that, but if they do, demand will pick back up at least on the East and West coasts.

I have taken 3 long distance trips in mine in the past 4 weeks with round trips of 1,400 miles, 800 miles and 260 miles. The last trip required no charging (returned home with a 20% remaining). The other two required charging stops every 3 to 4 hours for 30 minutes. (two each way on the 1,400 mile trip, 1 on the 800 mile trip). I had a plethora of charging options each time.

Imo the ev market will develop based on merit and maybe pricing given the high price of well equipped ice vehicles. Obviously the government incentives are gone and the climate change religion is beginning to crumble but many i talk to are interested in them, especially if battery range improves.

Agreed, and it should have been that way from the beginning. Help with the infrastructure makes sense, but help with the car purchase did not, IMO.

I think you nailed it with the EV option being the match for the fully decked out upper tier option package of a similar car, at least in the short run. That's really what the Bolt and the Equinox is in relationship to it's ICE counterparts.

Of course I would have taken the incentive if it were available when I purchased my LYRIQ. It didn't qualify at the time, but GM did cover it with a $7,500 "GM Promise" credit, and an additional $5K off for them delaying my car from 2023 MY to 2024 so I got the benefit without taxpayers having to assist.

I will say, I would have had a harder time justifying a used EV for our town runabout without the $4k used credit. Arguably they would have to have been cheaper to begin with so

I do agree with you on principle, but sometimes the dirty way is what works.

Climate change is not a religion. Religion is based on faith of a worldview that cannot be disproven. You can theoretically disprove climate change if it were indeed not true.

You did well with your purchase. All the vehicles I would consider buying at this point are godawful expensive and I wouldn’t be surprised to see manufacturers price evs aggressively enough to improve demand that they actually become a better value than their ice offerings. I also believe that legacy manufacturers will gain the upper hand in the ev market (along with tesla) as late comers go out of business. Lucid recently did a major reverse split, probably to to dilute some more and that's never a good sign imo.

I believe in Climate change. Where i live it changes 4x a year. Otherwise it's pantheism.
