Question about Plasti-Dipping.

I've been trying it out today. In photos i've seen, the result is very smooth-- but mine are turning out a bit porous. Am i doing something wrong?

The can says to wait 30minutes between coats and i've only been waiting 15-20. That's all i've really diverged from the directions.

The only thing i didn't follow to a tee is the wait-time. Is that making all the difference? I just didn't want to spend 2 hours spraying a few emblems.

I dont follow the 3-5 process with 15 mins interval.

I do a massive 1 coat with the spray can close
To the part youre spraying and let it dry and sit overnight.

Always comes out shiny smooth and not feel
Like sand paper

How are you prepping the emblems before spraying them?
What sort of area are you in when spraying/leaving to dry?

I only prepped them by washing them with soap and water. As i've heard, Plasti-Dip doesn't require the usual paint prep. I'm spraying it in my garage. I was out of the sun, no wind, and i did the 12-18'' away spray as the can instructed.
@86 ZN6, do you think i should try a close up smooth coat like you did?

Personally, i think the can was pretty far away; but the can says 12-18'' and that's what i've done. And considering 86_ZN6's advice as well, i may retry with a closer coat instead of multiple distant coats.

As a sidenote, i tried 5 stores before i finally found Plasti-Dip. 'Just thought i'd share.

The can says 12+" because PlastiDip is traditionally used to create grippy surfaces. If you move closer to what you're spraying, you'll get the desired effect. Lay it on a little thicker, too.

This!!!! Also when you spray it on make sure the coat has a nice thick shine to it. when i did mine the first time each coat would get bubbles in it then dry porous and if i made it a bit thicker it would dry nice.

Sorry for the huge images. As you can see from mine they are still kind of porous and could be better but they still look pretty good. remember that this stuff is kind of like rubber and it might be better to take the extra time and use actual paint.
