Alternately, he can distract his assailant with a round of flatulence. That would be more effective if the crook doesn't speak English or is hearing impaired, but not smell blind. Plus you don't need a weapon permit.
Someone will eventually publish a book on what you can accomplish with flatulence. Included, a section on plausible denial and raising suspicion on others.

That reminds me, I saw a news report that in Ukraine a Russian-installed governor for the occupied region was reported to have been killed by car this week. No, it wasn't a car accident, or even a car bombing. The guy was hit and then run over repeatedly, 14 times. That's what they call "killed by car".
I wonder if the Ukrainian partisan felt any animosity toward this fellow?
