That piece of exhaust pipe will last longer than the rest of the car. Just slap it on there. Hell, it ain't a pressure pipe on a steam boiler or a stress pipe holding up a bridge -

If you wanted to see "ugly welds" you ought to have seen some of my arc welding back in the day, welding galvanized water pipes into a cast iron exhaust manifold to make "headers". Yep, done with an arc welder with one speed (HOT) and one sized rod (LARGE).

Now, don't you two feel better about that piece of pipe?

The thing with sous vide is this:

High end steak houses first started using the method because any cut of steak can be sitting there for hours, ready to go at a minutes notice, and be perfectly cooked. Just take it out, put grill marks on it, and perfect everytime.

Home chef, same. I can get the sous vide going early in the day. Dinner time, when everything else is ready, take steaks out and finish. No longer have to time everything else around the steak.

Bottom line, perfect steaks everytime, and I mean everytime. And I mean perfect medium rare from corner to corner.

Edit: let me add, getting the SV going is same as filling a soup pot.

So, what are you worried about? The welds will leak exhaust gasses or the welds will not hold and the pipe will break away from the flange?

Asking for Bubba - he wants to know -

@NoHaveMSG wanted to see what the outside of the flange welds looked like in the same areas that have the partial burn through. I believe he's looking for signs of over penetration in the weld which would indicate a flawed/less than ideal weld.

Seeing as the partial burn through could've compromised the area, I would be "worried" about a crack forming at that spot. Just seems like a point for premature failure.

Doesn't much matter at this point because I also have the Motiv overpipe that I ordered from a different vendor. Upon looking closely at that part, I can see that one part of the inside of a flange weld has evidence of partial burn through as well. But it's a much smaller area and its only one spot. But still.

I guess I can either choose to install these pieces or not.

definitely too hot of settings. of course, they were welding 'pop can' pipe to 3/16" flange...

You mean the walls of the tube/pipe are too thin to weld at such high settings?

Doesn’t really look like it is undercut which is good, but it was too hot in some places and you usually don’t want to do so many start/stops.

it looks like my welds. to say, it looks like a new welder that wasn't completely comfortable with the gear, or the settings.

it looks either undercut, or not enough filler rod to me at least. the 1/8th-turn start/stop stuff definitely doesn't help the cause at all.
