the one thing i've learned from the early adopters in this forum is that most people are terrified of using a motor to it's full potential, including putting the gas pedal all the way to the floor.

there's got to be hundreds of threads in the history here of "i got tired of red-lining the motor all the time, so i got a ZL1 camero instead"

I love flooring my engines. The longer the better, haha. Not terribly hard to do on public roads in the 190 hp Spyder. A bit more difficult in the 575 hp AMG.

Those folks need to go up in a plane with reciprocating engines. You'll see engines have no issue running hours on end at near full power.

To be fair, "cheap" airplane engines cost as much as a whole car, and typically have a lot more maintenance scrutiny.

Yes, if you use Google maps to find "hydrogen stations" it looks different, and I mistakenly thought Google was a reliable source. Further research indicated that to not be the case, hence my edit.

Yes, I know the result of such a test is predetermined. The Tesla would obviously DNF because it crashed out on autopilot.

True on the maintenance.

A lot of homebuilt aircraft use Subaru, Corvair, Porsche, Honda motorcycle and other boxer type engines for propulsion. Most have just gearing to lower the prop RPM.

Even with certified aircraft engines, much of the cost has more to do with low production, certification, regulation and manufacturer's liability.

people are scared that their engines would explode and..you know, loud noises.

The Boxers at full song sound like a garburator full of stuff the grind.

When the wife and I used to have a Nissan Versa, i would floor the thing and extract maximum power for highway passing, the wife would floor it but always lets up at like 5000 rpm....
I asked her why she wouldnt redline it for max power and she tells me she didnt like doing that.

Nowadays it doesnt matter with the X1 turbo 2.0...the thing just goes with authority once you get on it....(but shes always driving in eco mode so theres always that 1 second delay before anything actually happens lol...but it'll go)

0-60 in 7 seconds means you can never use its full power? That's literally the 86/BRZ and I've had multiple and floor it pretty frequently.

Ya. You should be driving an 80hp geo metro because you don't need anything more than that. It'll get you to 60 in a tad over 9 seconds and you can floor it everywhere.
