Transmission Rattle while in Gear and Iddle - Toyota GR86, 86, FR-S and Subaru BRZ Forum & Owners Community

Okay,
Before I replace the slave cylinder for the clutch, I want to hear your opinions on what could possibly be making a metallic rattling coming from the fork area. It all started when I found a squeak every time I pressed the clutch.

Here's what Ive done.

-Greased the contact between the push rod and the Release Lever.

-Replaced clutch fluid.
-Greased inside the fork area, this seemed to take care of it for a while.
-Adjust clutch position.
-Greased area near the clutch switch, this took care of the squeal.

This rattling is more noticeable once the vehicle is warm. I do not believe is the TOB because of the noise distinction between a bad TOB and the sound I am getting.

It almost feels like there is too much, from what I can say, "deadzone", from the time the clutch pedal is pressed (1/4 inch to 1/2 inch travel), moving the push rod onto the cylinder which puts tension on the release lever and effectively engaging the clutch. This lack of tension, makes the fork to be too loose, and rattle as the engine movement becomes more active. How do I come to this conclusion? See below:

1. Open the hood, and touch the release lever with a finger, putting very minimal pressure against it, noise goes away. The noise standing outside the vehicle is not very noticeable, but very noticeable in the cabin.

2. Pressing against the clutch with a finger or very minimal foot-force, noise also goes away, this is where I noticed the deadzone, or the 1/2 inch travel . It is basically (1) but less direct force.

Im running out of ideas here. Maybe replacing the cylinder might be the answer, but if its not, I want to hear you opinions.

Ok, lightweight clutches are known to cause harmonic rattle in the transmission. If you are all standard weight I would start with the TOB. Easy to change and not that expensive.

I see, maybe that would be a possibility now that I got a QuickJack, so dropping the transmission should be easier.

I got a replacement slave cylinder so we'll see how that goes. Kind of odd to have TOB issues when the 2018s supposedly had the improved ones compared to earlier models.

18s that were early builds (April or May 17 I believe) still had the old TOB. No doubt a few could have still slipped through the system until at least the mid build. It happens.

That is true. Well, time to stop by harbor freight for a transmission jack.

These transmissions are light a floor jack and straps will work. Not as easy but work.

Went ahead and ordered the replacement parts. OEM (Revised) TOB, Verus Clutch Fork and pivot, because why not.

I am just dreading to do this repair, especially alone and inexperienced. But I guess since I have to do a transmission and LSD fluid change, might as well get some additional experience.
