Worse case yes, but I don't see myself charging for NA retunes.

The turbo cars are a different story - but I need more seat time to see

Just sayin.

Should be more like $150 -license, $250 -tune, $150 -cable.

There's plenty of profit margin in there.
Wow. I'm really surprised by this. I added 50hp and 100ft/lbs to my VW Tiguan 2.0T with a $600 stage 1 ECU tune from APR. They did all their own R&D and tuning in house and it's a dyno proven, warranty safe, reliable tune for the VW/Audi crowd, and they are still profiting from that price point.

Dollar for HP gained with an ECU tune is obviously much different for a turbo engine, but damn I can't believe the price of 18hp naturally aspirated from EcuTek. For what you get, $900 is crazy expensive, even when you break it down.

Also curious about the auto-blip. Haven't used it on street cars, but if it's anything like some of the sequential track cars I've driven, there's not much more to explain:

When you downshift, you don't need to heel toe. Just hit the brake, stab the clutch, shift (the car blips itself), and you let the clutch out.

Correct?

Again im not the most informed on VWs, but doesnt VW/Audi share their 2.0T across a million cars? Last time i went to AFRs page it seems like every car they make at least had a option for it.

Yes and they havent changed it drastically in a while.

Probably using the same ECU across many as well, crack one you are well on your way to cracking them all.

coming from VW/Audi, Yes, yes they do. That engine was introduced years ago and is available in almost all of the VWs and a lot of Audis. Not gonna compile a list but WAY more cars than our engine is in.

Is Ecutek willing to sell licenses and tunes w/out the cable? If not, then ignore below.

In the WRX community, people borrow each other's tactrix cables all of the time. Same with VW's and VAGCOM. I imagine that with this tune, many people will do the same. This equates to a $600 cost, not $950, to flash a car. For the record, it's only fair to compensate your generous friend with the cable at least a few dollars for letting you use it.

^this

Ecutek gets their license sold, and Vis gets his tune$ saving the end user as well. I'm sure if 7 or 8 guys in a locale pooled $50 to get a community cable it would make everyone win.

OK -

RaceRom AutoBlip

To activate ECU needs to see braking, clutch and then gear change.

If it sees all three things in that order it will bump up the RPMS.

Basic stuff - not for everyone - but its cool.

Everyone that gets a tune is really going to want a cable - Only EcuTek cables work with EcuTek software. Tactrix , vagcom or anything else will not work.

The cable will be used for data logging, flashing updates and going back to stock.

The cable can work on more than one car - cable supports, All 04STi+ 06WRX+, EVOX, Mazda MX-5, Mazda Speed 3/6s, Nissan Juke, Nissan GTR, Subaru Diesel, and by the end of the summer Nissan 350/370Z

if anything, I can accept the cost of the tune...but the cable is wayyyyyy overpriced. They are making like 3000% profit on that.

Its not just a cable, its also comes with a Security Dongle so you can run the EcuTek software.

Let's compare it to a tactrix cable.

Tactrix-
Does not offer data log support ( must use other software)
Only Supports Subaru, and EVO
Has a mini USB connection thats easy to break <- I've gone thru like 5
Has micro card support for datalogging w/o computer

EcuTek Cable-
Comes with non-java based datalogger that graphs
Supports - Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Subaru Diesel, EVOX, FRS/BRZ
Solid cable that will not break if you bash your leg into it or rip the USB cord from it.

I think it's worth every penny.

you can fix the "easily broken usb cable" with the $15 extension. i have tuned a crap load of evo's and am still on my original cord...just sayin.

now the real question, say we pay the $900 or whatever, does that unlock the tables and such so we can tune ourselves? what tables are unlocked already?

thanks for your hard work, doesn't matter if you are giving this away or selling it, this is paving the way for tuning this beautiful machine.

Thanks. I was thinking along the lines of when cams come out, so I can understand if that was an extra cost tune.

As for the license, does that belong to the customer after purchase? Say if I get your Stage 1 package through you, but later want to go a little crazy with custom ITBs, headers, cams, etc... and want it dyno tuned locally by an Ecutek dealer (Rocket Rally in this case) will I just have to cover the tuning time through their shop or because they are another dealer would I need a second license?
