Sort of like JIS instead of Philips? The shape is just different enough that they cam out when mismatched. One of these days I'll sack up and order a set of JIS drivers.

Not really. Just a #1 Robinson with slot extensions on the side. I don’t know how much torque you would have to use to cam it out. Probably break the head off before that would happen.

sort of. it's a newer design, but isn't universally accepted. square d started using it on breakers, but not their neutral bar screws-- which is still a square/flathead, but the square portion is rotated 45 degrees from the ecx style.

siemens maintains the same square/flathead style, with the square portion rotated 45 degrees from ecx style.




there's also most conduit fittings that use the ecx style screws, which is where i really started using the bit style the most--it offers a little more torque than phillips, and still maintains the self-centering feature.

i keep an ecx bit in my 11-in-1, but really prefer to use it as a last resort.


i generally use the flathead most times so then i can screw the cover plate on afterwards without changing bits.

depends on the screws. they're churned out of the plants so fast in a lot of cases that sometimes the 'square' portion of the screws are more of a 'rounded oval' it does work, but imo, doesn't give any better torque than the flathead option.

i ran one of the ecx bits in my impact for about 6 months. i stopped because i got tired of breaking the bit, or snapping screws.

it really doesn't cam out, ever. unless you're going at the screw head at an odd angle, then it'll strip the top of the screw off to the point that nothing else really gets it back out.

Spoke to my brother this morning who is traveling way up north. He overheard a conversation from a guy on his mobile. Guy had been on phone organizing car freight. After the guy finished talking on the phone my brother asked what was going on. The guy told my brother that his late model BMW had had a flat battery. Guy called battery installer. Battery installer replaces battery. Car tells guy his car is dead and has to go to an authorized BMW service center. It turns out to replace the battery one has to attach a auxiliary battery so the car always has some power. So, attach aux battery, remove car battery, fit new car battery, remove aux power battery.

TIL deer can get zoomies like a dog. Was drinking coffee with my buddy on his front porch and these two deer were playing for 15-20 minutes. Alternating from bounding around to a full sprint. It was pretty comical.
