While we are on the topic, how much oil would you guys suspect would actually be too much and cause harm? It's my understanding that too much oil can
- increase oil pressure - cause air pockets (failed lubrication) - froth up

Pretty sure it is more than that, I know guys that intentionally run a quart high. There is the oil pan, the upper oil pan, and then the outside of the crank is about an inch above that.

As long as the crankshaft isn't hitting the oil in the pan you're ok.

Oil pools in the heads when cornering. Another quart is insurance against starvation.

You'll be fine.
This is another good argument for a quick drain valve though. Slight overfill? Easy to drain a little without a full change. |
