That was part of my rationalizing buying it yes!

So many talk like the 13s were the only ones ever made when really there were incremental "improvements" (or at least changes depending on your likes) every year. The difference in going from the very basic FRS to the well appointed 86 was also a huge improvement for my tastes'. I did not dislike the more basic things about the FRS but damn I missed my keyless entry/start and auto climate control that may previous 3 cars all had.

Like @Tcoat, I would not buy a Gen2. Since there is nothing in the marketplace right now in the Sports Car category I would buy, I'm going in a different direction and going full Grandpa mode.

Original = Doesn't quite resemble anything else.
Dated = older design.

The Toyota 2000GT is original AND dated. Is it a problem? Hell no!

I suppose, in that context you could consider it both, however I would say that if the end year of the original model was pushed forward to today as the original release of the vehicle, it would not be tagged as dated. So I'm not sure the tag really fits.

if you released an S2000 today people would say, nice car but it is outdated.

If your car is paid for and is in good condition I'd stay with it. Economic conditions and wait times aren't appealing to me as a buyer.

For sure the dressings (lights/bumper) made the Gen1.5 cars more modern but the overall design looks a bit dated, again, IMO.

And i agree, the design of the S2000 does look a bit dated but gosh is it beautiful.

In driving experience, yes, very similar. But cosmetically, they are vastly different.

The basic body design is almost identical.
It is the details that have changed.
Even then most of the details of the first gen don't exactly scream "Old" when compared to most cars on the road now.

But if they were so similar, why do you hate the new one so much? hehe.

The overall shape/dimensions is similar but that is it. Often times, the details are what matters. For example, why are 996s so hated amongst 911 enthusiasts? And the 911 is the one model that have really kept to their overall shape over the years.

Again, looks are subjective. And dated doesn't mean bad. There are many samples of dated cars looking beautiful, S2000, NSX, ITR, E36 etc.

They are almost identical in basic shape but they slapped big vacuum cleaner nozzles on the front, gothic arches on sides of the front fenders, model t like running boards and cookie cutter Subaru/Toyota/Honda/Kia tail lights on it. Overall the whole look is not a flow BECUASE they kept the basic shape the same. It looks like somebody put random parts from Ebay body kits on a first gen car.

The list you give are all classic sportscar lines and if that makes everything using that design "dated" then I guess there is no way to update them.

Now this is dated!

Ya I am not for one second trying to tell anybody they should or should not like the old or new design better. Just that if the first gen is "dated" then the second gen is dated with some bits tacked on.

Although I will concede that the preface lift first gen taillights were out of fashion before the car even came out but always just tacked it up to designer's Fast and Furious nostalgia.

Literally every body panel is different. This may not come over well in pictures, but in the metal I think the second gen looks more cohesive than the first gen.
