There are a lot of people who wanted the car as a Toyota and still do, myself included and I refuse to buy the Scion. They don't seem to care if people want something or not. Even if you tell them you're willing to pay for it.

This is going to end up just like every other car that has turbo/na varients on the market. People will buy the NA, justify spending the money on upgrading to a turbo, and get pissed when things break because of it. Where as if they just spent the money on the turbo version in the first place, they would have no worry. This is the reason I refuse to turbo my NA 7, there is too much I would have to change and for the price that I would be buying everything, it would just make much more sense to have bought the Turbo version t begin with.

Sorry if this has been said before but I didn't read the whole thread.

And I also believe that this car will have enthusiasts on both ends of the spectrum, just like 99% of all other cars. There will be those who swear by NA, and those who swear by FI. So honestly why bump heads over it? Do what the hell you want to on your car, and just be happy with it.

My first car was a 1990 Toyota Supra Turbo. Fortunately for me, my dad picked out the car. I had originally just wanted a Chevy Cavalier...saving gas was my priority. I didn't know anything about cars back then (I thought that intake & vtec were the same thing), but the Supra changed my life. Like every young guy, I wanted to do so many things with my car. But with no $, I never did anything. I drove it bone stock since 2000 until I sold it 3 years ago (sitting in the driveway for 3 years with a leaky head gasket) for $900. My loss was someone else gain.

I'm a modest guy, so when people praised me for my car, I just accepted it kindly. Was it something to brag about? Yes! But it was MY car. That's all that mattered. When I was sitting in it, shifting gears at will, passing by slow drivers when I needed it, letting jerks go by without a fight....what mattered was that I enjoyed it.

Since then, I've bought a Toyota Camry, Acura TL, FJ Cruiser, & now Hyundai Sonata. What do I miss the most? Stick shift & the thrill of the drive. These cars can all go fast if you want them to...maybe not as fast as my beloved Supra, but fast enough to get places. But I'm not going to track it. When I get my FRS/BRZ, I'm planning to just keep it the way it is and smile when I drive it.

Just my "2 cents". :P
I'm probably going to take the same stance as you and keep my 86 completely NA when I get it the most I'll probably do is the wheels.

lets see...
FR-S turbo with warranty or FR-S with aftermarket turbo and no warranty.
tough decision.

a $30k(turbo version) Scion DOESN'T make sense for their teenage target market but a $30k Subaru would be normal
I'm curious to see if the Subaru (higher end model) would HAVE turbo since Subaru can justify it.

I don't know why people who already purchased are hating the turbo concept... What if some of us here just want to drive in a straight line and just drag race? Turbo lag, balance -- all those excuses. A really balanced car should also be fast in straight line. No, a 15 second car is not fast enough for some people. Everyone has their own need.
Then buy a car that does that or make the car you bought do that. Your favorite car or manufacturer doesn't owe you, me or anyone else whatever car you want. If they want to make it or sell it then great, but if they don't, then bitching about it as a "fail" is pointless. And like I said, it's a matter of preference. Just because you "need" a car faster than 15 seconds doesn't mean Toyota(or any other car maker) needs to make it for you. And you're definition of balanced is exactly that, YOURS. The 86 team have theirs and made a car according to it. Doesn't mean they're right, doesn't mean you are either.

Yes I've owned one. Fun and lag was never an issue, but for me, not the be all or end all in a requirement for a fun, quick, great handling car. Still prefer my power NA, but again, my preference and I'm lucky the FR-S comes that way. If it didn't, I'd probably be considering something else. If they offer a turbo version in the future for you power hungry guys, then great, but don't sit there and compain that the car is powerful enough. It's just not powerful enough FOR YOU!

They have developed a SC, but that doesn't mean they will release it.

Perfect sense; they take too huge a loss on each vehicle sold to sell it at US prices.

I really don't think FHI/Toyota can stuff that new subaru DI 2.0 turbo engine into these cars and sell them to the US for under 30k, as they are clearly going to use that for the new WRX.. Maybe the turbo DI 1.6 engine? or a N/A monster with 8k redline?

Even if they just upgraded the suspension w/ aluminum bits and some springs, better rims/tires, brembo brakes, and some wider fenders, i'm sure the car would sell like hot-cakes.

Considering he knew more about the FRS then we did before it was released. Yeah he's trust worthy. Not everyone is perfect and right all the time but I still feel I can believe his words.

I don't know until I see it but I wouldnt say he is wrong because he said they are working on it for the next generation. Doesn't bean they will make it a production car but the thought is in Toyotas mind and that's good for me.

dealers don't know SHIT. they may try to think they do but they know nothing more than the average consumer does. anyone with a half a brain and a modicum of internet savvy can outsmart a dealer.

Not sure if I see the 2.0L turbo engine from the legacy going in this, maybe they will use this instead
