performance shop owner vanished money, motors, self

https://www.thedrive.com/news/44666/...nd-cash-report

Quote:
Colorado Subaru owners are outraged and calling for a manhunt after the owner of a local performance shop reportedly vanished without a trace last week, taking with him a boatload of customers' cash and car parts. Shane Leonard, of SL Performance Boxer Engines in Colorado Springs has been accused of skipping town with hundreds of thousands of dollars and dozens of engines, leaving non-running customer cars by the roadside to be towed away by authorities as people try to unspool what's fast becoming a complex case of fraud stretching across multiple states.
seems like a story like this pops up every couple years with different players.

Yeah stuff like is super scary. That's why I always use shops that have been in the business for a long time with good reps even if it costs more. (Even though I do most of my own repairs)

This sort of thing has gone on since prehistory but I am really baffled at how it can affect so many people in this day of the internet.

"Save for a suspicious handful of positive reviews, all posted by accounts with similar name formats and positive vote counts, the reviews skew significantly negative back to the shop's foundation. Facebook displays a similar track record, with a handful of glowing reviews contrasted by a significant volume of negative feedback, much of it predating the shop's shutdown by years."

Who the hell hands their car over to somebody without at least checking reviews? I have zero sympathy for anybody that lost anything after the first couple of bad reviews hit the web.

The guy also looks like the type as much as I hate to judge a book by it's cover. That combined with the reviews?

i've really never checked company reviews for any work i need performed..

but then, all the companies i've used, i normally have the techs or the bosses personal numbers due to a personal relationship long before i use them for any business needs. most of them, i know where they live...
