First off, the real CF hoods are stronger then fiber glass and don't spider near as easy under stress, the weight reduction what ever it may be are just a plus, depending on the OEM part, the racing seats are mandatory for me as to be able to run under 10 sec I have to have to have a 5 point harness(racing seat)

Really? For cosmetics only I agree. However nothing beats carbon fiber for light weight and strength. Just look at all the top super cars and their use of carbon fiber. I hate cosmetic carbon fiber, but the real stuff is

Yeah, you can always rip out the A/C system entirely, including the Condenser. Better airflow to the radiator and you save weight!

Sure, carbon fiber is $$$$. But there is a reason Ferrari's use it, LFA...etc. It is expensive, but you can shape it and mold it just as you want and have it lighter and stronger than just about anything else.

After a while when you have done tons to help with cooling, there are still instances where your car can over heat or run hot, anything you can do, helps, you may not like it on cars, but your now judging based off your opinion, not functionality, I can understand if over done, or used in a "ricer" type way, but don't be quick to put down stuff just cause it's not of your taste

Wings produce downforce and drag. Downforce has the potential to make you faster into, through and out of corners. Drag will absolutely make you slower in a straight line.
In a trackday/hpde/race situation if your aero package isn't gaining you more time in the corners than it's costing you on the straights then it's counter-productive. Relating that effectiveness to putting power down out of the corners is a bit simplistic, but it's probably not far off. If you don't have enough power to have traction problems, you probably don't have enough power to be dragging around a more aggressive aero package. The more complicated answer is that it depends on the layout of the track and your lift to drag ratio. But that's not something most people have the knowledge or free time to get too deep into. |

Not everyone thinks in circuit racing terms (unfortunately). Though one of the key upsides to downforce in circuit racing is being able to accelerate out of the corner without lighting up your rears. |

He's a Miata driver, so I figured he's probably not drag racing (the only racing that is really relevant to his statement...).
