Stiff/pulling shifter?
I have a 2013 FR-S with about 80k miles on it. Stock shifter. It is very stiff to move to the left or the right - a lot of effort to get over to the 5/6 or 1/2 gears. It also "springs" to the side while moving down particularly from 3rd to 4th gear... I actually have to guide it (put pressure on it to the right) when going from 3rd to 4th, otherwise it won't go down into 4th.
What's happening here? Is this something that can be adjust? Thanks |

Check to see if the bushings holding the shift control arm are missing or damaged.
You can also check to see if the rear shift retainer bushing is loose |

It's been doing it for about a year - maybe longer. Hard to say. Thanks

Yes, those parts are accessible from below the car. The rear mount (in blue) is in plain sight but the front carrier bushings (in red) aren't visible. You'll have to stick your hand and go mostly by feel. These have a metal retaining clip that holds the bushings in place (part 33523B in the diagram) that might have worked itself loose.

@alfisti there's other wear items you need to look at.
The rear shifter bushing gets boogered up, makes it hard to get in and out of gear. Mine looked terrible after 80k miles. Also the transmission mount starts to flex too much to allow for easy shifts, which you can fix with a new transmission mount or getting the whiteline insert. The best fix for both of these is the perrin/whiteline positive shift kit. I had sticky shifts until I did whiteline upgrades up and down the drivetrain. That is, positive shift kit and positive traction kit. |
