2022 TPMS backwards compatible?

So this is where I'm at... A brief summary.

1. I had my dealership install my winter wheels/tires with TPMS sensors the night I purchased the car.
2. I supplied them with IntelliSens UVS7050 (T6) sensors.
3. They were unable to flash the new sensors to the car. I shrugged it off.
4. I attempted to copy the new sensors to the ECU with an Autel TS501 using the available BRZ setting. The tool was able to read the sensors under this setting and copied them to the ECU. Warning light turned off but returned soon after.
5. I upgraded my TPMS tool to the latest model TS508 and attempted the same process but using the Camry (snap-in) setting as mentioned elsewhere in the thread. My sensors could not be read by my TPMS tool under this setting.
6. I tried additional car types and models within the TPMS tool. Some read the sensors and write them to the ECU, others do not.

So, I've done some digging. The model of TPMS sensors I have installed claim to be a similar part to the T6 sensor, just a different model name. The manufacturer clearly lists the MY22 BRZ as a supported car. However, we know that the previous gen BRZ uses different TPMS sensors; T5. And I am unable to read my supposed T6 sensor using the pre-set of another car make/model that also uses T6 sensors (Camry). My TPMS tool will only read my installed sensors using the settings from other car models that use the T5 sensor (BRZ). Therefore, I think I either have the incorrect sensors, or there is some confusion amongst aftermarket TPMS sensor manufacturers regarding which of their models are actually supported. The photos attached are of the error code my car is displaying, and the read-out from the ECU showing the stored TPMS codes vs. what the tool read off each sensor. Stands to reason my car is expecting the proper TPMS sensor codes but can't read them because of an incompatible sensor.

Either way, my wheels look and feel great and the TPMS warning light is honestly the least annoying of any car I've had. I'm going to let this one rest until I swap out for summer tires in the spring.

I feel for you. As you have read in this thread, I am going through pretty much the same issues with having my Tirerack supplied T6 sensors paired to my car.

I am going to give it one more shot later this week, using the 2021 Camry settings (as Tirerack suggested) and seeing if Discount Tire can read them for me. If they can, I can let them try to pair them to my car, or supply the dealer the sensor ID #s to see if they can do it.

That said, it's not very encouraging that you tried the 2021 Camry settings and that it didn't work for you.

FINALLY...success, for the most part.

I went to Discount Tire and they were able to scan and pair the T6 sensors from Tirerack to my car using a 2021 Toyota Camry as the vehicle listed in the scanner settings. My TPMS light went off immediately, and after about 5 minutes of driving, I could see the tire pressures.

The only negative is that when he did this, he was unable to pair them as a second set, so if I ever want to go back to the stock OEM wheels, those OEM sensor ID #s are no longer there.

No big deal to me since the next time my OEM wheels and tires will be on my car is when I sell it. He told me anytime I want to change back to the OEM wheels, for me to bring in the car and he will scan and pair the OEM sensors for free.

Tirerack was certainly partially to blame for all my frustration. I did absolutely nothing wrong except to buy a set of wheels / tires/ sensors from Tirerack who told me they would work for my car.

They sold me a set of T6 sensors that my dealer could not read. I then went to Discount Tire (Tirerack's parent company), who also could not scan the sensors Tirerack sold me (because I told them my car was a 2022 BRZ, which it is).

I then called Tirerack and they told me to go to one of their recommended installers to scan and pair the sensors to my car. Based on their recommendation, I went to Firestone, NTB and Pep Boys, all of which could not scan and pair the sensors to my car (because I told them my car was a 2022 BRZ, which it is).

Only after calling and complaining to Tirerack that none of their installers could do anything, they finally told me to to use a 2021 Camry as the go to car to use in the scanner to see if it worked.

WOW... it finally did, after me driving all over Nashville and trying to have all these "recommended installers" try to scan and pair the sensors to my car. What a waste of time and money.

Good job, Tirerack. So...they certainly are, in my opinion, at least partially to blame for this total inconvenience to me.

Maybe this happened because the OEM sensors were already wiped from previous attempts? So the tool automatically saved the T6 sensors as the first set.

Hopefully if you ever need to add a second set, Subaru dealers will have this figured out by then.

Giant TPMS question. The '22 BRZ does NOT have a screen that list all of the tire pressures correct? Even though the manual shows a picture of the TPMS screen and refers to page P153. I have a 6sp BTW. Maybe the Auto has the screen.

I highly doubt it.

First of all, when I said Firestone and NTB could not read nor pair my T6 sensors, what I guess I should of said was that they couldn't do it because they didn't even try to do it. When I arrived at their stores, they told me their scanners were not up to date for 2022 vehicles, so it would not work even if they tried. Remember, this was before Tirerack finally told me to use a 2021 Camry setting for the scanner.

The only places that attempted to scan and pair the sensors were the dealer I bought the car from and Discount Tire. They both initially tried to use a 2022 BRZ in the scanner settings which didn't work. Therefore, at least initially, neither could read the sensor ID #s, so therefore they didn't try to pair them to my car.

Only after going back to Discount Tire with the info that Tirerack finally provided me (using a 2021 Camry), they were finally able to read the sensor ID #s and pair them to my car.

I don't know why he didn't program them as a second set, but he didn't.
