I bought a 2006 987.1 Boxster in 2016 for $20k CAD, drove it for 3 years and had lots of fun with it, and sold it for $19k in 2019 (before the current used car bubble began; now similar ones are $25k CAD). I spent $500 fixing minor pre-existing issues the car had when I bought it, and had zero issues over 3 years of ownership. It was a pretty nice looking car too, much more attractive than the 986. My upcoming new BRZ won’t come close to the fun per dollar that my used 987.1 gave, though it’s still a great value in the current market.

Many people on Rennlist are considering a new BRZ or GR86 as either a cheaper sports car to go alongside their Porsche, or to replace aging entry level models (944 and 986). |

A few months ago I decided that I wanted to try a convertible, maybe out of fear of missing out. I've been driving for 45 years and the closest I came was a wagon with a large sunroof. My choices came down to a newer Miata or an older Boxster. I went with the older Boxster, figuring it's already 14 years old and shouldn't depreciate too much if I decide a convertible is not for me and I move on to something else. Based on performance numbers alone, the Boxster and the 86 are pretty evenly matched. I'll have to decide for myself if the sound of the flat six and the chance for wind in what's left of my hair will win out over the practicality and lower operating expense of the Hakone.

I was reading this thread recently on Rennlist:
https://rennlist.com/forums/other-ma...ispreloading=1 Granted most of those users have newer models of the Cayman/Boxter, but the charms of the car for non-Porsche owners still apply. Last edited by Ash_89; 02-22-2022 at 02:17 AM. |

Just like how the Cancel Crowd invalidates everyone who is not of their ilk and then they turn on one another when someone in their midst deviates on a single point. There is a social hierarchy over at Mercedes-Benz where if you have a C-Class or some other “Entry Level” MB, you have to come in through the servant’s door. One day while I had my Sprinter at the shop I overheard a snooty woman disparaging owners of the lesser Mercedes-Benz cars. Since I don’t need any new friends, I butted in with, “My Mercedes has a Queen bed and a flush toilet…. does yours?” But then, I almost descended to the level of condescension watching a YouTube channel where a young So-Cal dude turned his 2022 BRZ into a non-street legal Ricer-mobile. I was going to add a comment about how he should move out of his parents house and get a real job and that a YouTube channel is not a career unless you have a very large loyal following. Dad might want to park his car in his garage. Then I read comments from the devotees who unanimously approve with, “Dope” and “Sick”. Apparently that means good stuff, so anything I might say would definitely make me out to be the Troll. I’ll leave that to the police who write a citation nearly every time he hits the street.
