I'm kinda late on this, but i feel like OP had unrealistic expectations.

You're going from a modded Gen 1 to a stock Gen 2 and you expected it to be a night and day difference? Why? Its the exact same chassis with a slightly faster engine. At worst, your mods took your gen 1 to about the same level as the gen 2, and at best your mods put the performance above the gen 2. Expecting you to be slammed back in your seat just because of an extra 20ish hp (because you have mods) is just the wrong expectation.

A proper judgment would have been to see how close each car drives. Does the Gen2 feel just like your gen 1? Well that tells me the Gen 2 is better since they are now similar but the Gen 2 is in stock form. Even if the Gen 2 felt slightly worse...well that just shows how far your mods went with the Gen 1 and it will give you an understanding of how those same mods could affect the Gen 2.

Just a quick note the chassis of the GR86 is not exactly the same as the FT86.

The side bending and torsional rigidity of the car has been improved. Toyota said the overall rigidity has been improved by 40-50%. I haven't driven the car yet but anecdotally, every single person who test drove the car came back with the comment that the car feel so much more solid than the FT86. A racing car driver in Japan who drove a mildly modified HKS GR86 with stock engine, coilovers, endless brake kit and 255/35 A052 did a 1:04 at Tsukuba circuit. He said the superior rigidity of the GR86 maximised the contact patch of the tyres and are more consistent as well. The extra 400cc capacity of the FA24 now has enough torque to power oversteer the GR86 even on 255 A052.

We basically have the same mods so guess that pretty much answers my question. 8k trade in value with over 100k I will be taking a big hit. I'll keep mine until it blows up.
