Yeah the 17+ steering wheel looks almost identical to the 22+ steering wheels.
The 13-16 wheels are different and bigger/thicker.

Interesting that you think a giant duck bill spoiler and some big ass side skirts are targeting... an older audience? I would like to think the current target audience is a lot more relatable to your description of gen1. To each their own, all that matters is that you love it!

Ehh - I think you need to see them side by side. The side skirts don't look ridiculous at all in person. As for the duckbill spoiler, which calls to mind a Porsche for me, looks more "mature" than at least the 2017+ spoiler in my opinion. I think the straighter/squarer front/hood lines look more mature than the curves of the Gen1. And finally, I don't think anything looks more "immature" on either car than the fake vent on the fenders of the Gen 1 - I really hate them no matter how they are treated (either OEM or aftermarket).

I mean in terms of whether one likes each part or not is very subjective to every person. I am on the other side of the train, thinking gen1's smooth design was beautiful. I also moved on from the original looks of gen1, as the simple changes in the facelift were a significant upgrade in terms of looks for me. I don't see how the duckbill spoiler calls a Porsche to mind, as most of their spoilers seem to be far more similar to gen1's type of styling.

I just think when it comes to duckbill spoilers and "designy" side skirts, a younger audience is in mind. I guess I could be wrong there. But I doubt I'm far off, as the internet has been making it pretty clear. The young crowd has been all over it on YouTube and elsewhere, claiming it's far better looking.

I think the previous gen looks better, more slim. Especially the rear end. Oh, and that duckbill is ugly as fuck. Looks much better without it.

Pretty much everyone has been saying that.

As for the spoiler, you must not have seen many Porsches.

Not sure what you searched to find that. I would believe you if you're telling me that's a stock spoiler, but I certainly have never seen any new Porsche with one on the road. Just google Porsche and click on images and scroll around. I don't see a single duckbill.
It's either a wing or a spoiler more similar to the design style of a gen1 twin in terms of a minor lift off the trunk and a fairly flat looking lip.

I don't know what to tell you - I look at the Gen 2 spoilers and I see Porsche. I look at Gen 1 2017+ and I see boy racer (and I have one). I think the Gen 1 2013-2016 is somewhere in-between, because it is almost literally somewhere in-between.

Interesting. Well like I said, to each their own. I truly hope I like gen2 in person, at least some day. So far I've only seen it at a bit of a distance and it didn't excite me much. Look forward to a facelift if one ever comes, and maybe I'll love it. One thing is for sure... I would be all over giving it similar mods to my gen1 and enjoying the gains.

Interesting discussions, I had 0 interest in the 1st gen because of its looks and poor engine tuning/performance but I always knew how well the chassis performed and respected the car.

Gen 2 modern styling/interior and performance was just enaugh to get me into it. If I can get a glimpse of that Miata feeling back with the BRZ I'll be super happy after tracking BMW (mainly M2) for a few years.

Yeah I see the 2nd gen as being way more aggressive looking and targeting a younger audience with the fender vents and bumper scoops and the sculpting under the doors. Not that it matters much. 2nd gen still looks good, it’s just the 1st gen looks more clean/sleek (to me).

Bottom line, styling is subjective. It’s not like either car will embarrass you in front of coworkers or a date the way a CTR might if you’re over 25.

Dude, I am almost 38 and my car has a wrap with a giant wing. I HATE driving it on the street through town. I'd rather be driving a Prius then look like manchild street racer.

I didn't like 2nd gen looks when I first saw it on YouTube(back lights remind me of a civic). But having seen one in person(light blue color) I am starting to like it.
