Yeah...if this were Carb certified, it would be a no brainer. Given that it's not, doin the whole risk analysis =\

I did a lot of experimentation with the GT3076r in twinscroll and open configurations. I've tested nearly every a/r available with the exception of the 1.06 open housing. I like the turbo, but feel the turbine wheel is slightly mis-matched for the size of compressor. I would prefer a larger turbine with a lower trim to help with breathing, rather than utilize a high trim small turbine to gain "response". I had tons of surge problems with the twinscroll stuff, even with a ported shroud and 1.06 divided housing.

I'm not a hater of the GT3076r. Its a great turbo, and it sounds amazing. But perhaps the only housing I'd use is the .82 open housing. It definitely seemed to perform the best of all the open and divided setups. It had more power everywhere and didn't seem to lose response at all.

I've never personally used a gt3071r, but been in cars using them. They seemed to do pretty well. The GTX versions are way too overpriced, and really only provide hp boost when you are at the point of maxing out a standard GT turbo.

It's interesting, when I owned an S2k the only thing people ever talked about was how dog ass slow they were. Fast forward ten years and suddenly they've become blisteringly fast.
My S2k feel blazing fast after driving the BRZ around... :p

Don's pretty much answered my question. My reasoning was that a turbo will dull response once its on and off boost and the transition between them, i.e. how you drive the car round corners rather than planting your foot on a straight road. Don says the Disco has very good pickup and that isn't a factor basically.

The GTI i had before the BRZ wasn't noted for being laggy but it doesn't have a sharp throttle response...

Excited to see the Turbo Auto results.

Don, have you looked at your gas mileage since you've installed the turbo setup? Curious what kind of effect it had on it.

I would be happy with an engine like the one in the Megane RS Trophy...with a few tweaks it has 300hp, ZERO lag, 430 nm of torque:

if I'm not mistaken it uses a Mitsubishi TD0415T Turbo twinscroll.

Whatever that is, they must be cranking on that little turbo!

It could use a little more power but it was already close to "enough" for a daily driver.

Obviously a little hard to tell lag from the passenger seat, but it wasn't obvious like some turbo cars I've been in.
