I figured I'd try what others have tried. I added about 6-7oz of 2T (Lucas Synthetic 2T) today when I filled up. If you do a little math 128oz/gal and 13.3gal tank, 8.5oz would be 200:1 (or close enough), so 7oz is like 243:1. I kid you not... no chirp immediately noticeable. Will moitor it and keep track tho, but the bottle of 2T will stay in my trunk for now (spare removed,so it's under the trunk floor with my quick detailer, jumper cables and microfibers).

See if you think it's quieter, smoother and using a bit less juice too? |

I have to admit, it seems quieter, smoother and so far I've got about 250mi to this tank (with about 3/8 remaining). Could all be placebo effects, but it does not chirp anymore. I plan to use less and less 2T until I find a sweet spot. Going to measure it out before hand as well. It's hard to get an accurate measurment from the markings on the side of the bottle. I'll try 5oz next time, then 4oz and so on, until I find it chirping again, then I'll know the minimum.

I mentioned the smoother, quieter and better mpg because that is the general opinion when added at 200:1, it's certainly been my experience. The gain in economy will certainly pay for the 2T used + a bit more for the slight inconvenience. They used to have a dispenser at the pumps with Redex upper cylinder lubricant. I can remember my dad always put a couple of shots in the tank of his motorcycle/side car combo when he filled up. It's time they brought that back with ethanol, as an option or better still, add it to the fuel. Not Redex, i'm sure there's much better these days, especially the high tech 2T stuff. |

Noticed this noise for the first time today pulling into my drive way. I have about 1500 miles on the car and I had just filled up on my way home from work with Shell 93. I had been using Shell since new and never noticed an issue but put Sunoco in for the fill up last week but don't recall the noise starting then. I'll see if the noise goes away as I start using this new tank full of Shell gas.
If worse comes to worst I have more 2-stroke oil than I need right now. Thinking some Maxima Caster 927 should give the exhaust a nice scent. |

not sure if you still have the car, but the ticking is 100% normal. I drive a turboed 2019 BRZ and it makes the exact same noise. Same noise as my first 2014 FR-S. Its the direct injection system shooting fuel into your engine. I asked a "Subaru specialist" about it when I was getting my car tuned. As far the squeaking/squealing goes, that's probably a problem. I have a chirping noise from a recalled fuel pump, but my vin is out of range so :/ can't get a replacement right now. hope this helps for the people who were concerned and anyone this "problem" affects in the future. |
