I previously had a manual 2019 Crosstrek (FB20D engine), and hated the severe rev hang it had. Its rev hang was also inconsistent, in the sense it would only hang if I had pressed the throttle in the 3 seconds prior to clutching in. This inconsistency kept throwing me off once in a while after I had built muscle memory to shift really slowly in that car.
Well, not really a fair comparison to the 911 R. With the lightweight flywheel, it revs quickly and it’s tuned for driving involvement and fun.

I’d imagine the 718 Spyder has a pretty similar engine dynamics as the 718 GT4. It’s also not a great comparison as the 4.0L is quite a gem of an engine.

The 718 Cayman S revs a bit slow at low rpm, a bit similar to the 2.4L in the BRZ. Still a bit crispier though.

The BRZ revs pretty slowed from low rpm and the rev hang isn’t great. However, when I keep it “on the boil”, it’s great! No complaints at all. In fact, I appreciate the quirkiness and the challenge to keep it flowing.

First post here. I picked up a new BRZ about a month ago, and although I have limited mileage on it, it is wonderful. Better in every way than the 2017 86 that I traded it in for. Looking forward to Spring when I can open it up a bit.

Second post, I posted in the 40+ thread on the GR86 thread. I driven Hondas my whole life. Still have my 9th gen civic for city driving.

Basically my first sports car and boy I'm having trouble driving it slow. Totally different world coming from a lifetime of civics, accords and crvs. I'm overjoyed with my purchase. I dabbled in autocross last year and on r compounds the civic barely needed brakes, just point and shoot. I'm happy to work on my driver mod and have a car that can actually rotate this spring.

Very much unplanned but I sold all the cars but kept the BRZ! I didn’t think there’d be a car that would make me do that but I’m pleasantly surprised.

In the meantime, waiting to get the CAE shifter installed.

I will just leave this here.

Ever get the CAE shifter installed?

I did the Motul 300 75w90 gear and diff fluid change. It had a very positive impact - I highly recommend it.

I put in a steering wheel spacer from 949racing (great product, great shop), and that put the factory shifter a little too far forward for comfort. I emailed IRP about getting a shifter with a slight angle bend in it, to bring the knob closer to the driver. No response. Am waiting on a lathewerks angeled shifter extension for the factory unit but the more I think about a solution for this ergo issue the more I come back to this CAE unit; given the very short throw and it appears to move the handle point slightly rearwards (unless I'm mistaken by the pics?). Very curious to hear your thoughts on it and how the install went for our 2g cars.

Cheers,
Colin
