Primacy Tires
I just placed a deposit for a 6 speed manual BRZ in Premium trim. Anyone else opt for the Premium trim because they actually wanted the Primacy tires? I thought the first gen was so much more fun and playful with these tires in comparison to something stickier.

I’m too much of a child to have expensive tires, honestly.

I actually ordered the Premium because I didn't want 18s. I thought the Primacies were fine for the original car. Especially for regular street striving. I felt like they were a decent enough tire for the amount of power the car had. However, I have a feeling with the power increase in the new car, it may be better to have something sliiightly more grippy. I guess we'll see.

I ordered the Premium in part to get the 17" wheels, so I can pitch or sell the Primacies and throw autocross tires on.

I'm gonna get all season performance tires for the 18's on my car and sell the Michelins for a nice profit
Haven't decided on what tire to get yet tho.I plan on driving this car instead of my autocross rat miata in the winter so I need something that won't kill me at every curve in the snow. I've done snow before in summer tires in my Miata, absolutely the opposite of fun understeering and oversteering at the same time and totally unpredictably. On top of that, I also get all of the extra options and resale value which comes with the limited. The most valuable to me being heated fake suede seats, adaptive headlights and the better stereo. |

I was thinking of seeing if the dealer would make the swap for nothing realizing that the all-seasons are somewhat cheaper than the Pilot Sports. The problem is finding someone to purchase the Pilot Sports, particularly if they even have just a few miles on them. |

There are also online resellers, but unless you are near a warehouse, I'd suspect that you would lose another nice chunk to shipping costs.. Some Examples: https://www.tiremart.com/ https://bestbetusedtires.com/ |

I'd never make a vehicle purchase based on the OEM tires. In the case of normal vehicles they are often the cheapest garbage the auto maker could get from bulk contract for a tire maker. My assumption going in is I'll use them up as quickly as possible in order to move on for a quality set.
I chose my Limited for other reasons, but IF tire's were part of the decision making process, I would have gone with the grippier option. I do autocross in stock class (wheels will follow after I unload a set from my last car), but I also don't really enjoy sliding around. I prefer grip that will tear my face off vs big smokey oversteering slides. |

I purchased the Premium in part because I preferred a bit more sidewall with the 17" wheels. I planned on buying a set of track wheels to put stickier tires on and thought that the Primacies would be fine for the street.
I'm either spoiled from years of driving on 200/300tw performance tires or I drive like a jerk; I only made it a few weeks before ordering 215/45/17 Michelin PS4S. I missed the extra grip for emergency stops and on-ramp shenanigans, and the Primacies were too eager to squeak and squeal when aggressively pulling into traffic or cutting a quick u-turn. The car felt too soft side-to-side and the steering was dull. I can see why: lifting the Primacies by the sidewall after the PS4S were mounted the sidewall stiffness was super floppy by comparison. Now they're sitting in my basement until enough new wears off the car for me to sign up for a drift day. |

For my canyon tire, I specifically use something low grip (Federal SS595) to keep some playfulness in the chassis without going too fast. It’s probably a little less grippy than the Primacy even, closer to the Bridgestone Turanza optional all seasons offered on the 1st gen if anyone remembers those. When I switch back to my 200tw tires before a track day and do a shakedown run in the canyons, they feel like superhero tires which is fun too.
For my BRZ2 on order, I didn’t specifically select a base trim BRZ for the Primacys (more like I didn’t want all the extra stuff), but the tires will be put to good use in the canyons for sure. Btw the steering feel point mentioned above is valid too. When I go from my canyon tire to my track tire, the difference in steering feel is very noticeable. I’m still looking for my unicorn stiff sidewall, low grip tire but doesn’t seem to exist.

I've been running yoko advan V105s which have a stiff sidewall and aren't too grippy. I like them quite a bit. They're not where near as grippy as the PS4S I ran previously. Not sure if they are a unicorn tire, but I am happy with them. |
