Bent Rod - FR-S
A few months ago my engine seized on the highway and I took it to a mechanic and he said it was toast and seized. Recently I got it towed to a Toyota dealer and I am getting it fixed there and my car is bone stock besides a cat-back. They said I bent a rod and my car is a 2014 with 77k miles and I got no warranty. Does anyone know anything that could possibly get me out of paying 7k for a new motor and labor? I called the dealer I bought it from and they said I have no warranty and I really don't want to pay the price for a new engine.

You would be better off just buying the engine yourself and get a couple of friends together to replace the engine. For 7K might as well throw 5K more and get yourself a K24A with the swap kit.

If long term, I'd have it rebuilt by a pro shop, if block is good with stouter parts, pistons,.rods, valve springs, and oil pan baffle. Round it out with a good oil cooler and enjoy the nex 200K+ miles.... Flipper? Buy a junk yard motor with a 12 month warranty and move along... 3K to 5K either way. 7K is too much to pay for a stock dealer motor. IMHO. Good luck. Sent from my SM-G955U1 using Tapatalk |

To add to the above, depends on a couple other goals... like whether you keep it stock or beef it up?
Was your current car stock? Proper oil change intervals? Driving style? In what situation did the motor let go? Just curious as to whether the engine decided to give in or if the reasons could relate to your own faults. This could also help define what you choose to do in the situation and how you care for your car if you choose to get a new engine. |

I agree with others. are you planning to keep this car for a long time? people usually switch out between 3~5 years
if you're not planning to keep it long time, find reputable shop and get quotation. I will only pay up to $5K $7K is rip off |

If that's a new motor and labor 7K is right where I expect from a dealer. I would find yourself a low mileage used motor and get a shop to put it in. Should be 4-5K total. But you are well past powertrain warranty.

Looks like ebay engines are $4-$5k these days, plus a day or two of labor you're there. If (when?) My engine blows, I'd source a junkyard/eBay motor, swap in my garage, rebuild the original as a spare, but not many people are dumb enough to take that risk so no guilt from me to someone who wants to take it to a shop. |
