Movin on up? Naahh, don't think so. It about what your econ 101 prof called "opportunity cost" and the TA referred to as "guns or butter." Even if you have the money, money you DoN'T spend on a new car is money you can spend on something else. I like that idea. I've spent the last 6 years and a bit of cash making my Bee Are Zed think it's a GT car. I'm a set of Bilstein B6s (and possibly FRS rear springs) away from accomplishing that.
Covid put a hold on our GTing plans. I'm planning on installing B6s after the first of the year, getting our Moderna boosters, a gross of masks, and setting out once again to "See the USA, in our Chevr.... BRZ."

“If money is not an issue, what are good reasons to stick with 1st Gen over 2nd Gen”
Not available in all markets, but 1st gen was offering a bare bones model with a weight of less than 2635 lbs. Weight could go even lower, but it was interesting to see how factory managed it. I was lucky to get one and to modify it with selected STi and GR parts without going on the heavy side. So, it is a personal item now. If Subaru offers again a bare bones model, then I might have second thoughts. |

NGL, there is one thing that may cause me to stick with 1st-gen, or at least delay getting a 2nd-gen:

In which category will you compete with a 2.4 liter engine? I was hearing that in Japan will raise some issues comparing to the 2.0 liter, because there aren't many engines with similar displacement.

With my club (COMSCC), points are assigned based on the platform, mods, and power/weight. Pretty sure I could tailor mods to the 2nd-gen 2.4 liter to remain in my preferred class, or bump up a class if necessary. But given that it's time trials and not w2w, my approach is more to build/mod the car as I want to and then try to make it fit in a class. 2.4 powah and torque appeal to me particularly after Watkins Glen. Perhaps I should just supacharge the gen-1, but in that case a supercharged gen-2 should be that much better still, so...

Why is this a big deal? I don't get it. The door handle is a different style, so deal breaker?

Yeah, I'd prefer the old style handle as well. I wonder if this is one of those small things they did to try to bring the cog lower? If so, I'd still prefer the old style handle.
While we are griping about the interior, I am also not in love with the center console lid. I know the old one did not even have a lid on it, but I was able to get an aftermarket armrest that was pretty great. I can't do that this time. ![]() pic of the old armrest:
