He said the new car is much nicer to live with, while the old one is only "good" when you're driving 7/10 or harder. Just to clarify, he wasn't talking about absolute speed. Of course the new one is faster on the track. But, according to him, the old one was fun enough when driven hard — not so much when you drive "normally". The new one is faster on the track and nicer on regular roads. |

More sound insulation? More Road biased suspension? What exactly makes it better for the road except less torque dip? Sent from my SM-G781B using Tapatalk |

Well you see... that's just it. More torque! Brings far more smiles on a daily cruise, even with all other things equal.

Toyota had a few cases where senior citizens in Japan had smashed into buildings from parking lots. The public sort of pressured them into this sort of feature there. I’m sure a few here and everywhere else with all makes snd models that have push button transmission selectors and vague signs of cars being in gear or drive modes. World becoming too litigious for features also add to the fire I guess… In the old days, we’d just dismiss this by saying we should retire drivers who are incapable of driving safely, but in today’s world, discrimination and standards of society prevents that sort of remark too.

I mean, these systems can only do so much. But yea, combine instant 1G acceleration with a growing population of older people who easily get confused about gas and brake, and park from drive, these features will only become more prevalent. |

You see this a lot on rec. vehicles and motorcycles too. People forget to let go of the throttle when they aren't used to hand controls, or they don't understand how quickly the power comes on when you twist a throttle.

Driving should be regulated on levels approaching those for piloting aircraft. The burden for entry need not be financial, but demonstration of competence, including platform-specific should be required. The way we, in the U.S., hand out driver's licenses is laughable.
