Just drive your car and enjoy it. Even if it holds some value, it will never beat taking that money and investing in good companies.

No one got rich selling that old S2k that they never drove.

I totally get being interested in having a car that appreciates significantly. But when I really sit down and assess everything, prioritizing this makes no sense for 99% of folks or generally at the consumer level.

A buddy of mine was fortunate enough to buy a s2000 CR new in 2009, it’s worth 3x now. But if it was purely viewed as investment you have to consider adding up energy spent preserving the car, limited use, storage, insurance, and other expenses.

If he had put 25k in s&p in 2009 he would have 140k today and never had to touch a thing. If he added another 20k over the next 5 years, even more.

Sure it’s great to be able to drive it but you inevitably face two realities. 1 don’t enjoy it and always stress about preserving it, or 2 you can afford the risk and reduced return on your money, so you enjoy it to whatever degree and it’s just bonus that it doesn’t loose value or may appreciate.

For me, I’ll buy used and then on final year, buy new and enjoy driving it and knowing it will likely not loose value over the next 25 years, and if it does so be it.
