Found out my dad was forced to get the vaccine as the VA Hospital made it mandatory for employees (makes sense). I find it funny as he's very anti-vaccine, despite him also being in the Army for 22 years. So God knows what his body has been exposed to in Panama and German sitting in a M1 Abrams.

I *hope* we get to so called herd immunity. The vax deniers get a free ride and the job is done. Don't expect any thank yous either when it's done from those whose bodily perfection cannot tolerate any prick greater than themselves, and therefore are they dangerous. I just mixed in a Shakespearean quote from Julius Caesar in that last sentence. Caesar's soliloquy regards to his distrust of Brutus. I, or should I say we, should distrust vax deniers. They are being pushed out of certain jobs here as well as attending some in-person higher education, being forced to enroll online only. Deservedly so.
they say history repeats itself. that bolded part is what i've heard war veterans say for decades about anyone that protests any war...

it's really sad/interesting to me how in just this one thread, we're literally going through the history books on ways to manipulate/control entire groups of people, in ways that have already demonstrably failed.

I find that thanking part ironic. I HATE being thanked for my service. Yet some pogs who never saw outside of an office ham it up. but that's a rant for another day lol

Didn't see anyone that answered you, but I was about 20 pages behind since I've been "off grid" for a week so if this is a repeat my apologies. BMI does not take into account muscle mass vs fat mass. The formula is

BMI = Kg/M2

Kg= your weight in kilograms
M2 = your height, in meters, squared.

It doesn't care what composes your weight, nor does it consider bone structure or other variances. Supposedly that is accounted for in the ranges.

At 5' 7" to be at a healthy BMI weight I would need to weigh between 120 and 155lbs. I have been able to maintain my weight a 170 for years at a time, but do get down to 155 I would have to eat almost nothing, and exercise 2 to 3 hours a day (I know because I tried it).

If I can get down to 170lbs I'm happy with that even if it puts me in the center of the "overweight" category for my height.

yea, the vets that were part of the draft, i've always made a point to thank, specifically because they didn't have a choice, the choice was made for them.

but anyone that's served post-draft, i don't as those people made a choice themselves. no one thanks me for what i chose as my career path, i see no reason to thank them for the path they chose for themselves.

Only a few tens of thousands of people die each year in the US from car crashes, but not only does every single care have a seatbelt, they have seatbelts for every god damned seat! It's so stupid! We almost never use the center seat in the back of our other cars, but we still have to pay for that seatbelt, plus all the others. Screw this nanny state!

I suspect that will increase the body count among the unvaxed and serve as 1) an object lesson on the costs of pig headedness and 2) provide an incentive for the unvaxed to seek out vaccination.
A few percent can save a lot of lives. Oh, sure, the antivax morons are not going to get vaccinated unless they face real consequences, like losing their jobs or being barred from businesses. Still, there are many people who are just lazy or busy or don't have a car or a good internet connection or are old or need help. If these door to door visits can lead to a driver coming over and administering a vaccine, we could get another several million people vaccinated, saving thousands of American lives.

Tobacco taxes, plus the following anti-tobacco campaigns, have massively reduced tobacco use in the US and other first-world nations. I used to have to wander through smoking sections at restaurants. Now, not even Vegas has smoking within restaurants. Still a lot of smoking there, but if they banned smoking in casinos, it'd take many people off the drug.

I'm a big fan of personal responsibility. Taxing people for the costs they put onto society is a good thing. This is also why we need far higher gasoline taxes. I'd say $8 a gallon will cover the costs avoiding worse global warming and even give a small amount towards mitigating all the harm it's already causing. If you want to actually fix the harm, probably $16 a gallon, but that pricetag just keeps rising. Look at much of Germany.

I think the harm of gambling on society, beyond hurting the individual, is less than the harm of some other things mentioned. I have no statistics to back that up, though.
