Definitely has nothing to do with transmission, just age and coolness. Look at Porsche 993s. The MT is more expensive than the tip but the tips are pretty pricey as well. Similar with others classics.

That makes it a survivor not a classic.

So we are ignoring the very definition of the word and just using it to mean old?

People use the term "classic" for all cars in an incorrect manner all the time.
Even stating that all prewar cars are "classic" is wrong. They are all vintage or even antique but there is more criteria for them to be classics

"The Classic Car Club of America is thought by many to have the supreme definition of a classic. A CCCA Classic is a “fine” or “distinctive” car, either American or foreign built, produced between 1915 and 1948.2 The CCCA goes on to declare that there have been 1,366,843 American classic cars produced, and more than half of these are Cadillacs or Packards."

An Airflow may have been a "turd" but it is distinctive. A Biscayne is neither "fine" nor "distinctive" no matter how you try and twist it.

Not all old cars are classic.
Not all old paintings are classic.
Not all old books are classics.
Age is only one part of the equation.

No one is that stupid, like when people came and said, "I know tv is free, but buy our cable service and get no commercials!". That never happened years ago.

i remember that. my parents had cable when i was a very young kid because of that. cancelled when it when the commercials started becoming prevalent.

and then i repeated it with xm satellite radio--when it started, all the music stations were commercial free.

seeing the same trends in amazon, and youtube...

This is trolling?

I'm just on a war against pedantry, I guess.

"That's not an assault rifle! It's single fire." "Yeah, but the vast majority of people call it an assault rifle, so the word sticks at least as well as your narrower usage."

"That's not a sports car. That's a GT!" "Yeah, well, the vast majority of people would call it a sports car, so the word sticks at least as well as your narrower usage."

I'm not putting that all on Tcoat. I'm just saying it's a classic now. It's like how anything that gets old enough becomes an archaeological artifact, even your discarded chicken bones.

Artifacts are defined as "an object made by a human being, typically an item of cultural or historical interest." so if the bones have cultural or historical interest they qualify. If they are just some random bones dug up with no significance they are not artifacts they are just old bones. This is exactly the opposite effect you wanted when trying to exclude the requirements to meet the definition of "classic" since it also gives conditions to the defintion.

It is not being pedantic to try and argue that just because some (not sure where you get "vast majority") people use a word wrong it doesn't all of a sudden make it right.

The word "classic" does not now nor ever has meant simply "old". It is old with qualifiers. Not all old cars meet those qualifiers and are not "classics".

Just to nitpick, but that exactly how language evolution works. Maybe not "all of a sudden", but after enough time has passed and enough people use a word in a new way, that new way will become the "right way" and the old way will become the "wrong way".
