Also, recommend upgrading your cooling, I.e Radiator and fans/shroud and oil cooler

From what I read hear there are turbo charger kits that don't have water cooling! I wouldn't even think of not having it. It was learned the hard way that oil cooling alone isn't reliable. Running a car hard such as on the highway and then turning the engine off, such as a rest stop can cause the temperature to rise so much on the bearing that the residual oil will "coke".

All modern cars today that I now of use water cooling. GM learned this back in the 80's when they produced a 3.8L turbo charged engine and customers had all kinds of issues with bearing failure due to "coking" of the oil.

My tuner informed me that a GT2860rs(disco potato)is capable of 400whp. It is what I have on my turbo kit. Thats news to me, from looking the the compressor map it runs out of steam around 35 lbs/min of airflow but I trust my tuner completely So FYI. But I will be upgrading to GTX2867R. I hear that the gen 2 compressor wheels are more efficient than the GT garrett turbos.

I think 400whp would be stretching its abilities a bit. Garrett says up to 360hp, which is probably using a higher displacement engine on E85. That is crank horsepower too, so your tuner is suggesting the turbo will put out over 450 horsepower to the crank. Maybe it is possible at the very edge of the compressor map. I don't know. It seems like there is a point with lots of extra heat that leads to more boost with less gains or no gains or even loss of gains in horsepower, and E85 is magic. I think you are wise to upgrade turbos.

If you could step it up to the G25 series then that would be even better for efficiency, transient response and broader torque profile. The GTX adds a billet wheel for sure, and it may add more fins and maybe anti-surge housing and maybe water cooling on top of oil cooling, but I think the GT is available in journal bearing, but the GTX is only duel ball bearing.

The G25 series comes with a stainless steel turbine housing, a more efficient packaging for power for better low and top end for its size (G25 spools like a GTX28 with the top end of a GTX35) with a v-band clamp on the turbine housing, duel water galleys to run bottom/bottom, top/top or the tradition top/bottom, making packaging/installation easier, and I want to say the turbo housing outlet is the same, so different housings can be changed out without having to weld up a different v-band to the downpipe or something like that.

I got the G25-660 for the K24 swap, but don't judge...I followed Solidsnake11 and got a replica turbo--Pulsar. For a grand, I got their turbo, 44mm wastegate and 50mm BOV. I couldn't justify dumping over $3k for those three items. Poor man's build.

I agree that it's running the 2860rs too hard at 400whp even with E85. I'm just giving the info out that the disco potato is possible of making 400whp happily but any more than that the turbo and engine won't be happy making more power.

I wanted to go with a GTX3071R, I hear that the response is still very good with room for more power. My tuner also said that getting a bigger turbo would increase lag thus decreasing response a bit. He's the tuner and I trust him.

Yeah, it looks like this G25 turbo is the best turbo for like my setup and probably most setups. Faster spooling than the gtx2860r and still be capable of 550hp is quite impressive, but they're expensive. The lowest priced one was around 2k, and I'd have to weld a v band on the downpipe.

those replica turbos any good? ill check it out.

TL'DR:
400whp is possible on the disco potato according to my tuner. G25 is a great turbo, but expensive. Also, it's a lot more work and money.
