Ditto. Never a fan of that style of flare, it always looks tacked-on and inelegant, and also not ideal for aero. You can push the air apart abruptly, but you need to *gently* put it back together...

I wish the new car stuck out just a little wider to give it more of that s2k/z32 effect, but such is life.
It's not that they're not wide enough, it's that the fender is so TALL. Tops of S2000 fenders are super-low (another benefit of wishbone suspension yay!). So you can make this fairly radical shape that flattens out above the tires and then fairs back into the side of the car. Sexay. Super-wide flat fender lips and tacked-on conical (or slightly ogive) flares look kinda gross and are IMO used in a vain attempt to disguise just how tall the fenders are relative to the tire diameter. I think the new car's front fenders are a big improvement...

No you're not. I was going to post something to this phenomenon yesterday but it got too wordy. You got right to the point!

Seriously, a lot of laypeople aren’t going to even know it was a redesign because the overall look is so similar. The first gen overall was a great looking car but it had all sorts of detail oddities and bizarre design decisions that made it look awkward at certain angles or perspectives. This is no different.

That synthetic engine sound. Oof. It could be the camera, but I'm hopeful there is a setting on the dash to turn it off if it actually sounds like that.

I've already called all the Toyota dealers in town and told them to call me as soon as they will accept a deposit or start taking preorders.

I'd like a Supra, but I'm not dropping $50k on a car that will see maybe 3k miles a year. And since my 135i broke my heart.

Like the new Z, but since it's actually going to have a starting price around $45, not $35, don't want to spend that. I think at this point the only thing that would sway me would be a really gnarly STi. Which I don't think we get the specs on until right about the time the twins go on sale. And will still be in the 40s for the higher trim levels.

Thankfully my lady and I both work from home, so it's not a big deal we only have one car right now. Sold the play car last month.

I hope they keep the same characteristics of the current AT in the new one- meaning in manual mode
it will stay at redline and won’t auto shift

Fender vents owe a lot more RC-F than S209. IMO they're well integrated and look fine, to me. I like them better than the non-functional add-on front fender doo-dads just in front of and below the side mirrors on the current car.

'22 car's rear fenders don't bulge any more than current-gen, I don't think. The way the rockers integrate with the "bulge" area is more similar between current-gen and GR Yaris, it's just *way* more exaggerated on the GR Yaris. '22 does something different with the spats, love 'em or hate 'em. I *like* 'em, love would be too strong a word...

I wouldn't get to worked up about *why* the car looks like it does. If you don't like it you don't like it, that's enough. I've seen designs largely dictated by one guy guided solely by his artistic vision that suck, and I've seen "committee" designs that look great! Also, sometimes design aspects stolen from another car can look GREAT! Not a huge fan of the car itself, but I *love* (most of) the styling of the '93-'97 Camaro, and the front design language was basically from a '90 Geo Storm!

To me, neither 1st nor 2nd-gen seem at any of those extremes anyway. They're both solid designs that don't look derivative and are coherent and work well overall given the compromises (strut suspension = highish fenders, 2+2 config = kinda awkward-to-me rear wheel placement).

It’s been said during the reveal you can turn it off.

Seems likely but I recently changed my proposed ordering plan to the 6MT from the 6AT. I just think a MT give you ultimate control without having to guess if the AT will perform the way you expect it to.
