Maybe if I end up buying more models, I'll cave and get an airbrush. That's another reason why I never bothered to get one; I kept saying I won't get another model

Not sure building blocks (in this case MegaBlocks) count as plastic modeling but thought I would share. I've been housebound for a couple of days due to a bronchial infection so decided to put together a Christmas gift from one of my sons. A Master Chief display helmet. Photos in order: Getting ready to start (415 pieces in 9 bags). Second shot, looking down inside the "helmet" before the top is put on. Not much room for a head in there. Photo 3, the finished product. It took way longer than I expected it to (about 4 hours on and off), most of the time spent looking for the right piece.
I also have a 500+piece 24" long Halo Energy Sword to assemble at some point.

Hah, probably not one big enough. The helmet is about 6" by 6" without the stand and weighs a couple of pounds.

If you can find a way to support the helmet and have it "float" above the bobblehead body, it could work. But that is a lot of work for something that may not work.

Silver base on Zero. A coat of hairspray will go over that and then colour on top of it. Then a bit of water and a toothpick will take off sections of the colour coat to show the silver underneath as chips.
![]() ![]() Pontoons for Seiran complete and ready for paint. One will be assembled and one will be just coming out of the sub storage tube. Since they will not have the same level of wear as the Zero a different method of showing the chips will be used.

The pontoons are for the other aircraft I am doing in conjunction. I built both at the same time since they both needed the same colours. The Seiran aircraft were top secret and even the Allies best intelligence didn't even know they existed. They were pretty new and not flown often (never in action) so they didn't get the wear and tear that the Zero fighters that flew almost non stop action did. EDIT: I see I typoed Seiran twice that may have caused your confusion!

Way way back in the olden days there were these things made out of paper. They were called magazeens or something like that. Some guy must have experimented and found that if you used it between coats the second coat could be chipped away in a controlled manner. Not a method I use often since it is usually used to show extreme wear. Doesn't matter what brand.
