NVH Questions

While I'm saving up for the dozen or so mods I have planned, I'm tinkering with making the car a smidge quieter/more refined. Along those lines, I'm doing some mild sound suppression. Two questions:

1. Does anybody have a trick for isolating the source of a buzz/rattle/other NVH? I have one somewhere around the steering column or instrument cluster area (resonance/speed sensitive, seems to be prevalent about 75-80mph?), but can't narrow down what it is.

2. Where do y'all buy Thinsulate Acoustic? I'd like to throw some in the door panels and rear wheel wells, but haven't found a good source outside of one sorta sketchy listing on eBay.

Thanks!

Get a mechanics stethoscope (the two-to-one single tube variety) and a small funnel that will fit into the end of the single tube. Might even want to get a little longer piece of tubing. This works great for finding the general location of a rattle. Pull out the funnel and use just the open end of the tube to narrow down the location of a rattle.

If you have automatic climate control (which an 860SE does) there is a cabin temp sensor in the dash by your right knee (assuming left hand drive). Looks like maybe three(?) slots in the dash plastic. Check the connector/wiring behind the sensor. Mine was buzzing as you describe. There are many other possibilities as well. They didn't spend much of the budget on NVH for this platform.
